Yikes.

I really thought at the time we made the KAT trade that we should have flipped Randle for whatever we could get while keeping DDV and expanding Jaden and Naz's roles. While Finch squeezed about as much out of him as one could hope, Julius still hit a hard wall in those playoff exits against OKC and the Spurs. Meanwhile, Kuminga hasn't given off ANY bad vibes yet and is 5X cheaper...at least for now.

Connelly deserves credit for eventually fixing his mistakes, but they were still mistakes! (Dillingham is another regrettable one deserving it's own post-mortem!).
Great points, Q. I was with you back then wanting TC to flip Randle as part of or immediately after the KAT deal. But as you noted, TC has a knack for fixing or recovering nicely from his mistakes and what he pulled off this past summer to end up with LaMelo and Kuminga is yet another example of that knack. The Ayo acquisition last February is another hugely impactful example.
To be fair that clip the whole team looked ready to go home. Randle also put up 33 8 and 7 in that game. Edit: also I guess it was a preseason game

Like you said Connelly when he makes mistakes find a way out of them. I think he also makes swings or mistakes with players or moves with some thought about whether or not he can move on from them. Lamelo is the most expensive player he has acquired. Often his swings are on guys on short term deals or contracts he can move on from. A few months ago when the Wolves had next to nothing at PF there was definitely a little thought about how it would be nice to still have leonard Miller. Connelly goes out and convinces Kuminga to sign and then moves Josh Green and adds Cody Williams who looked like a moderately intriguing large wing that might even be able to play a little PF at times. Like you said adding Ayo last year was a nice move too he has had a really nice season and it's great to see that NAW has continued his success in Atlanta.

Lip your guy Jeremy Sochan was selected #1 in the G-league draft.

It's a bit wild we went from discussing whether we should sign Sochan to ending up with Kuminga. I'm still a little surprised that Sochan didn't end up on an NBA roster but there are a lot of talented guys out there and there are some likely worthwhile vets still unsigned too...and of course empty roster spots.
