The New York Knicks have been one of the worst run franchises in the history of professional sports. The fact they haven't been able to compete with all the built in advantages they have, is truly amazing. Is this an example of savvy thinking? Perhaps, but the obvious question would be, "what the fuck took so long?" I mean how do they wallow in mediocrity year after year when the very league they play in wants them to win so badly? It would be like the New York Yankees having a sub .500 record for a decade.

Let's not compare our situation with that of the New York Knickerbockers. A stranger parallel can hardly be drawn.

Cool - You're absolutely right about the Knicks being a horribly run franchise for a long time. But that doesn't tell us anything about this particular move by their current front office. Trading an unhappy potential star on an expiring deal and coming off ACL surgery for the very talented young Smith, two first round picks and effectively $70 million in cap space to go with Knox, Mudiay and Ntilikina looks pretty savvy to me. We'll see what they do with the cap space and draft picks, but the Knicks finally seem to be getting it right.

I've actually never compared our situation to the Knicks. But I think it's fair to say that neither franchise has been well run for a long time. And now we have Scott Layden running our front office - the same guy who as Knicks' PBO was voted worst front office executive at the time.

That Knicks/Mavs trade is a slam dunk for Dallas. I don't think the Knicks got a good enough haul for a top-30 player (pre-injury) still in his early 20's. And the Mavs just paired their teenage superstar with him. Fuck, man. That was one of the fastest rebuilds ever and it's way better than what the Wolves and many other teams have right now.

I will agree with you if Porzingas resigns. I love the game by the Mavs but if Porzingas signs the QO for offseason instead of going to RFA. I would be scared if I was a Mavs fan. Buy if he does resign man the West continues to be tough

He is gonna resign. Word was that Dallas has been trying to pry him away for quite a while and NY finally relented. Dallas is a great fit for him. If he doesn't...it won't be long before Dallas has boatload of cap space and Luka. Heck it won't be long till they only basically on have Porzingis Luka and Hardaway Jr on the books. One possibly underrated aspect of this trade is under Carlisle and playing for a smarter franchise Hardaway JR could be a more valueable piece than he has shown so far. He is overpaid but he doesn't just suck. It's funny the Knicks have now traded him twice though. Lol

That was just one trade scenario the Lakers supposedly offered. I know people are down onnsome of those Lakers players but that's a pretty massive offer. Makes you wonder what the Celtics will over this summer. Could be massive.

My thought exactly, Duke. It's a nice deal for the Knicks. They have really good young pieces in Knox and Smith, a top 5 pick and the cap space to sign to stars next summer. They also have some other nice young pieces in Mudiay and Ntilikina who might have trade value if the Knicks decide they don't fit there. Meanwhile, the Mavs really rolled the dice on this one. Zingus should come back from his ACL, but it's never a sure thing and he hasn't played for a year since his surgery. He's also on an expiring deal with no guarantee he'll re-sign with the Mavs. It could turn out to be a good deal for both teams, but I'd say it's a better deal for the Knicks.

I don't hate the move for the Mavs, however giving those 2 picks with minimal protection is a big deal when trying to build a team. I love Porzingis, but the dude his coming of a major injury. Dallas took back some really bad contact. Evaluating it know I tend to think it's a good gamble for both teams, but for me this move finally shows a vision by a Knicks front office. Even if they swing and miss in FA I still thinks it's a good move.

It definitely seems that way. I can't help thinking that the Knicks had some legit question marks about his long term health prospects if they dealt him so quick. But if Porzingis can show some moderate good health, Dallas is going to be tough to beat moving forward.

Very easy comparison, both franchises have been clown shows for 20 years! You can compare the market size all you want. You can win in this league despite market size if you're a well run smart organization. You can think otherwise but I'd say you're wrong. Since getting Kat, the wolves have been a terribly run franchise, they've wasted the the most important years after drafting a star player to build something sustainable. They've had plenty of resources to do so but have made unwise decisions repeatedly.

This is a new front office for the Knicks, finally a forwarded thinking move by them, even if they swing and miss this year in FA.

Free agrents now are smarter when picking a franchise to sign with, the Knicks now have a path, I'm envious!
