Cavs officially signed Andrew Wiggins today to a deal starting at $5.5 million. He cannot be traded for 30 days.
Brian Windhorst @WindhorstESPN
Cavs also signed 2nd round pick Joe Harris to a 3-year, $2.3M deal. First 2 years guaranteed, source said.
Thanks for posting, Grey. So much for the report that Wiggins was holding up a deal with the Wolves by refusing to sign -- unless the Cavs promised he wouldn't be traded as part of the deal. If there was such a promise, we'll find out about it pretty soon. Otherwise, I suspect a deal between the Cavs and Wolves has already been worked out for implementation 30 days from now.

Give me Wiggins, Young, two first round picks (MIA and MEM) and non-guaranteed contracts (Lucas and Murphy) while dumping Barea and Brewer and I'm good to go. I'm getting a bit impatient with all of this anyway.
Interested to see how Flip balances the roster after this trade. Still some guys on the FA market that can be had for cheap.

It's possible Wiggins' camp was trying to stay in CLE and that today the Cavs got him to sign anyway. Maybe the framework is in place & they said look, you are most likely getting traded regardless.

Curious if they do in fact have a deal in place to finalize the Wiggins/Love trade 30 days from today, when do they announce it? I would think from Cleveland's perspective they would need some guarantees that the Wolves won't suddenly jump on another deal in the meantime. You would also think Flip would want to know where they're going so he could potentially begin making moves to balance the roster.

Thoughts on Wiggins and Thad Young a couple guys that could end up on the Wolves in or after the Love trade.
Reading about and watching Thad Young he has that versatile and unselfish game combined with some nice skill and athletic ability that reminds me of KG. OBVIOUSLY he isn't nearly that talented but it sounds like his attitude is top notch he plays D and plays without the ball. If the Wolves bring on a guy like Bennett having Thad a guy that can guard either forward position might be handy and Thad might fit next to a guy like Bazz too. I'm not dying to get Thad or anything but I'll admit he intruiges me.
I watched highlights of Wiggins and part of one game against OSU. He looks long and the measurements back that up at 6'8" with at least a 7 inch wingspan which would be decent for a PF. In some ways he actually seems to play more of a Forward type game athletically the way he powers dunks rebounds blocks shots and his perimeter game needs work. He seems to be one of those guys that is to athletic for his skill level with the ball in his hands which makes him look out of control. (LaVine is MUCH more refined here and its not even close) Wiggins to me looks like if he can add strenth could be a natural SF and could easily be compared to Kawhi Leonard although Kawhi is a really good rebounder. Wiggins looks like he could be downright nasty on D. People probably aren't going to get excited about Wiggins being compared to Leonard but he just won MVP and if Pop said even his rookie year Leonard might be a star that's pretty good he has some nice potential yet.On offense Wiggins looks very smart makes good plays especially passing from the wing to the post which is a skill often overlooked. I'm not sure if he has star potential on offense but if he ever did he could be that whole package guy like Jordan and Lebron because they were/are great 2-way players on BOTH sides of the ball. I see where the excitement of the star potential is for Wiggins but I just don't know how much to expect him to refine his offensive game. He is young and his jumper is pretty good but does his offensive game have that factor you really need from a true star. Idk but he is young enough he can absolutely grow in that area. I'll watch a couple summer league games and 1 more college game to see what I think more. Love the defense though so I could get excited about him just on that.

Damn it.... why does the trade machine have to disallow you from throwing guys like Wiggins into it to easily see what deals work and simply tell you the deal doesn't work until X date..
EDIT: I thought of a work around. It's very likely J. Lucas III will be in any Love trade as well as Wiggins & likely both to MN. Their combined salary equals the 7.1m that Kyrie makes so when trying to figure out August 24th trades involving Wiggins we can simply sub Kyrie for those 2 guys.

You could do that, Grey... I've been subbing Thompson for Wiggins instead.

Yeah I was doing things like that early on, but it's not exact that way.

3 team deal involving the Sixers. I saw Lip throw Wroten into one of his ideas & I could see him being added. Sixers getting 1 or 2 2nd rounders. Wolves getting two 1sts. If the Sixers feel they're taking too much for 2nd rounders then maybe the Wolves keep Shved & buy him out or find another team instead.

NOTE: Kyrie is the placeholder for Wiggins & Lucas III

Am I wrong for thinking that K-Mart is a much better fit for this Cleveland team than Waiters is? "Win now" mode. What am I missing? Martin's a reliable three-point shooter, free throw shooter. LeBron is at his best when he's surrounded by knockdown shooters. Martin is that for the most part. He's essentially an off-ball player at this point of his career too, which is perfect when playing next to Kyrie, LeBron and Love. Waiters is at his best when he has the ball in his hands and can dribble penetrate. He's an improved shooter, but no where near the level of Martin. Takes a ton of ill-advised shots, which won't fly next to Love and LeBron. Already has pissed off the Cavs FO and Kyrie too.
If we're comparing salaries, Martin makes a couple more million than Waiters. That shouldn't be a big deal. I think Waiters and Martin are involved.
