Missing on Turner and anybody else that doesn't move the meter is not a big deal.

2015 Free Agency thought: Anybody think Flip would throw the max at Klay Thompson, assuming he had the cap space to do so?

IF we are able to land Wiggins and somehow move Pek for a young cheap promising PF, that would be the most exciting move he could make.

Rubio
Thompson
Wiggins
????
Dieng

That would be a team that could contend for the playoffs and maybe have the potential for a deep run in a couple of years

Thompson does seem like a guy Flip would covet. I don't want Thompson and the Warriors package for Love, but if Love is moved for a Wiggins package, I wouldn't mind trying to steal Thompson from GS at all. Would serve their fan base right for being so obnoxious.

The Warriors would match. In any event, Klay wouldn't sign an offer sheet with the Wolves. He'll get max or near max offers from better teams and teams in more desirable locations. The Wolves franchise isn't in a position to stick to anybody or any move the needle type free agent. Flips going to have to make a lot of smart draft selections and make a lot of savvy trades over the next couple years if this franchise ever hopes to be a contender or in position to sign a coveted free agent, including a second tier FA like Klay Thompson. (First tier FAs are the LeBrons and Melos).

So let's hope Flip gets Wiggins, let's also hope that one of the other pieces from Cleveland turns out to be an all-star caliber player and let's hope LaVine turns out to be the steal of this year's draft. Then maybe we we can talk in a few years about signing significant free agents and sticking it to rival organizations.

If you assume that the Love/Wiggins deal will happen eventually (as I do), then "missing" on Evan Turner is a blessing in a disguise.

Ball-dominant SG that can't shoot very well is not my ideal pairing with our ball-dominant, can't shoot vey well PG.

My thinking is that Flip will come out of this Love situation with Wiggins and a starting caliber PF (Thompson from CLE; Young from PHI). If we're looking at Rubio-???-Wiggins-Young OR Thompson-Pekovic, and have the necessary cap space, throwing the max at Thompson is something I could see Flip doing.

If he doesn't sign the offer sheet, then that's fine. I just don't see a team that's talented enough to be intriguing to him offering him that kind of money. I also don't know if GS would match. Like the Rockets and Parsons, it might be too rich for their blood.

Was just a thought anyways.

Evan Turner is a decent get for a team that needs a wing. That doesn't describe the Wolves and matching him with a passing PG that hasn't proven to be able to shoot doesn't make sense. I don't mind missing out on him at all. Honestly I wouldn't be shocked if Flip was never that interested in him in the first place.

I think its clear Flip isn't interested in signing guys that are going to add salary beyond this year and that makes a lot of sense to me. There were a few guys that would be really nice value guys especially depending on your roster that we could have added via the MLE but who knows if they would have signed here or what the needs will be tomorrow or in a few months. Flip's plan could be as simple as having cap space to sign the 2 euro players he mentioned around the draft PC.

If he keeps Love and Love opts out maybe it could give him some interesting options to work with next summer its a little hard to say just looking at cap numbers for next year I'm not a cap genius and we don't know what is going to happen with Rubio and Love's numbers up in the air.

TeamRicky wrote:Ersan Ilyasova is on the trading block for Milwaukee. Should we have any interest?

[Edit: After posting, I did some digging and it looks like Milwaukee wants to shed his contract which is $7.9 mill per year for the next two years and then a team option, there has been talk that Milwaukee might incentivize a team to take his contract

He had a mini-breakout a year or so back (his three point shooting was above 44% two years in a row, and he rebounds well) then he battled injuries and reverted back to his pre-breakout form.

Would it make sense to trade Martin for him since their contracts are similar? Ilyasova turned 27 in May and has been wildly inconsistent, but if we trade Love we might need a PF more than another wing. ]

Not a bad idea. Ersan actually strung together three very solid seasons with the Bucks until last year. He might be in a "buy low" situation. A Martin deal might make sense for both teams since their contracts roughly match up.

Interesting thought, Cam. Now I see where you were coming from. Getting a Wiggins deal like the one you suggest opens up all sorts of possibilities because it gives the team great upside without any near-term salary cap pressure. So we'd be in a position to offer big contracts to a select few regardless of the chances of actually signing this players. And maybe our young guys would gel sooner rather than later, creating a buzz around this franchise that some free agents might find appealing.

The key is getting a Wiggins deal done like the one you mentioned.
