He really didn't have a place in the pace and space era. But, he could have a role in thibs' archaic offense. Instead of relying on the rose to create offense, we could just dump it into okafor to iso in the post.
It's wild to me that he's 22-years old and might not play another four years in the league -- not because of injuries, or lack of talent, but because his game is completely outdated for today's game. It's sad to see and it's another reason why I hate how the game has evolved and is focused around the three-point shot.
Yeah, I used to love watching him operate in the low post during his brief stint at Duke. Hard to believe he won a title (with Tyus of course!) and then proceeded to be in the mix for the #1 pick.
While his post game may be old school, he's pretty damn effective down there and I think there is still a place for it in the league. The bigger issue is his defense. He's a disaster.
Luckily , we run an archaic system that will get him post looks in the offense.
Defensively, we have Dieng and KAt at C, so he should fit right in.
Those TNT guys would have even more to bitch about us not posting up more. Lol No to Okafor. More SHOOTING and defense please.
I do get what people are saying but I don't feel that bad for Okafor. If he really wants to play basketball he can go over to Europe and make Millions over there. A few years ago more legitimately skilled players were getting overlooked for big sometimes fat guys that people prayed could play against Shaq.

I'm honestly surprised he has no role in the league. He seems at a minimum like a guy you play 20 minutes off the bench and just feed the ball to get 12-15 efficient points. How is he that much worse than a guy like Jamal just chucking jumpers up all game long? The league hasn't really figured out how to use big men as the 6th man that are just offensive specialists.

Here is the thing with Okafor. He is not a good rim protector, not good in PnR defense. Bad rebounder for the position, if he was good at rebounding I'm sure he could find a job easily. Shown immature signs.
Good post player but you can mug players in the post. He is sort of like bazz in the sense you need to build an offense around him to have a chance to be a plus player but his post game is not that good to warrant a contract

According to Jon K : "There is potential for some pretty good news coming out of the next 4 or 5 days, so stay tuned. " And he mentioned that it isnt the kat extension.
Jimmy extension?
I dont think its a trade.
KG signing for league minimum? KG's jersey retirement? Apparently, he is in Vegas during summer league.
Taylor forcing thibs to choose between being a coach or gm?

I think that has to be the league's next "point of emphasis." While we're seeing three free throws given to the slightest touches 26 feet from the hoop... guys are getting shoved and pushed and clobbered in the post without anything close to a whistle.
Yes. I get the math... 3 vs. 2 points. I get the space and pace game. I get the fun of the new NBA. Heck, as a longtime advocate of little PGs who's been trying to get away from all the big men hype... as the guy who's always wondered why the 7 foot guy who just dunked only because he's tall gets to mug while the PG who did 90% of the work feeding him the ball doesn't get noticed...
... even I fear the future of the NBA without any post game. It all starts with officiating. It's not worth posting up if your big man is going to take a beating and get shoved into tougher, less efficient shots than 26 footers.
Sadly... the NBA is too popular right now to suggest such a thing.

Bring back the hand check. Those guards aren't tired enough when they're shooting. Harden would never have the energy to do those fancy dribble back 3 pointers if his defenders could be right on his grill 30 feet out. I for one think the basketball was better to watch when players got beat up a bit. It made the big play more dramatic.

Disagree on the handcheck.
Any type of defense that ends up with Mark Jackson and Anthony Mason as more effective PGs because they can back into the offense for 20 straight feet is not ok in my book.
The problem isn't the handcheck out front nearly as much as the complete opposite officiating within 5 feet of the hoop.

Okafor...
Basically he is a younger Al Jefferson. Like it's been said who builds an offense around that?
Alex Len put up some nice stats last year and isn't signed either.
Ultimately I think the Nets might actually want Okafor back but he is hoping for as much as possible. The offers aren't there. How many teams have a spot for a young center? The Cavs?
As for the mugging down low I don't think it's that different. The perimeter is a stark contrast but I think it's more about the players and the game changing that the officiating per say. A few years ago you guarded the 3 it was important but not a huge deal. Then teams started to shoot more so you had to guard it more. Now you have to guard some players 3-10 farther Than the 3 point line. That just adds so much more difficulty to defending. They are calling fouls for guys getting into their Landing space that is relatively new. Should we eliminate that? Does anyone really want to watch more post ups? I wasn't against it but honestly now I don't see the point of changing the game to see more of that.

According to jon k, the rift between butler and wiggins/kat is real. The team doesnt like jimmy throwing the kids under the bus to the media, but thibs isnt the type to get involved.
This is basically chicago all over again.

Play 80 games Jimmy and your rhetoric will be more palatable.
