My surprise pick for Vikings at 14 is:

LB MICAH PARSONS, PENN STATE
He's one of the best run defenders of the PFF era, ranking fourth among all linebackers in grade (92.4) dating back to 2014, and he's a solid coverage player with 4.39 speed. Parsons is also an outstanding pass-rusher.

He would fit in as Barr's replacement in 2022 and injury insurance in 2021 or more.

The Vikings have had for too many questionable character guys go south too invest in another. See Gladney last year and many defensive players in the last 20 years. And it's not a position of biggest weakness to boot. No thank you!

Parsons issues seem to be a Penn State problem again.

I was not happy with the Gladney pick as he was not the best CB on the board. As far as Parsons not being in a position of weakness I don't think it matters in the first round. You take the BPA or highest-tiered player. If the Vikings see him a tier above OL there and think there is a group of OL they could draft later I would say go for it.

CB Eric Stokes would be a great guy to target if we trade down.

The Vikings have taken some other shots at guys with character issues and it's been fine. Dalvin Cook has worked out so far. Zimmer worked with a few guys with various problems when he was with the Bengals too. I think I'm general they like good guys though.

Having said all that I read a basic summery of the Parson's stuff and it's troubling. Maybe it was a few years ago (I didn't research further) but I would be concerned with that pick...maybe if we traded down and he fell farther I would be more likely to take a swing. The Vikings got a 4th and 5th rounder last year for dropping from 25 to 31 and then taking Gladney so if Wonnum becomes a solid player for then then it will make that Gladney pick which looks bad now (we don't know the outcome yet although it doesn't look good) less bad.

Cook is a good comparison. They did a lot of homework on him and it worked out. I think his falling to 2nd round made it less of a risk. I think trading down from 14 would make a risk pick more acceptable.

I would love to get this guy in second round.

The Vikings did go OL. Are you betting on day 2?
