I am not as excited about Merrifield. What Kirilloff did at AA at 21 was pretty impressive. I don't think I would trade him for a position player that is not elite. I don't think Merrifield is elite. I think we keep Lewis and Kirilloff as future and spend money on pitching.
Dumb question, but why can't Kirilloff or Larnach play 3B? (or any of our other 1B/RF prospects)
If Sano can play there I don't see why other guys can't. Why I am saying this is I am wondering if trading a guy like Rosario would kill the clubhouse.

Larnach doesnt have arm like Sano and Kirilloff is left handed.

I dont think people realize how bad Eddie Rosario was last year. I pulled this from Aaron Gleeman twitter
"Rosario has swung at an AL-high 50% of non-strikes since returning from the injured list in mid-July, posting a .287 OBP and 28/4 K/BB ratio."
These are atrocious numbers. Think about our line up how they grind out at bats. Kepler, Polanco, Cruz and Sano all grinders and work the pitcher hard. Then you have our clean up hitter who's so much of free swinger thats he has 1 of 2 chance of swinging at balls out of the strike zone. Basically a free out most nights in the middle of the Twins line up. Why would anyone ever throw him a strike you could throw 8 balls in a row and theres a chance you can strike him out constinently. I know he has a flare for the dramatic and is very likeable player. The fact is hes a middle of the road outfield who's on the delcine. The reason why I say trade him because his value is never going to be higher. Hes coming off a year were he was very fortunate of line up that was in front of him and he still has 2 years of arb left. All we heard at the deadline from Falvey is that teams wanted major league talent as well as prospects. Well Eddie is our best bet to help get even more pitching here. Sorry for the rant its just I hear all the time that this guy is untradeable hes one of our best players because he bats 4th. The Numbers are just not there, you could plug Max Kepler right away into that spot then you have Arraez, Polanco, Cruz, Kepler, Sano, Garver just making pitchers work there tails off night in and night out.

He was bad after he came back from injury. I also wondered how healthy he was. I know guys have to play through things but still there probably was some games if they hadn't been so depleted in the OF I don't think he would have been playing. It kinda reminds me of Cron having a tough time which his thumb injury and he still followed his career year up with one that showed it wasn't a complete fluke. Could either guy end up with a healthy season and make the Twins look quite smart for holding onto them?
In no way do I consider him untradeable. I don't know what his value truly is though. I do think it's hard to just flat out shop him though because I do think he is really well liked in the organization. Again lots of hard decisions to make I'm glad it's not me having to make them. The good news is that with this organization it's because there is some real (or at least reasonably perceived) talent in the organization they have to choose from. They are going to let go of some guys that go on to have success. Hopefully they keep and or make deals for enough of the right guys. When this organization traded Span and Revere away they didn't get a whole lot out of those trades for years. That really hurt but I think trading those guys wasn't a bad decision.

I will say Ben was a platoon player at best and they did get Meyer for Span at the time was a consensus top 100 porspect even in some people top 50. I think good comp to this is Dozier. Now Smeltzer looks like okay prospect for what they got for him, but if they traded him the year before they would've gotten a way bigger haul for him. I dont know what Dozier trade value was then but I'm sure it was higher than the dogers 19th best prospect and guy who wasnt even in there top 30 prospects.

Like you I'm not knocking the deals I'm just saying when you deal away guys like that who clearly had value and end up with basically nearly nothing to show for it...man that hurts. Some of that was simply bad luck. The thing about keeping Dozier was...they had him during that time. I bet having him on the team made them some money which doesn't hurt. They were a wild card team in 2017. Prospects...you never know who is going to turn out. I think we can agree Rosario isn't as key to the Twins as Dozier was and likely doesn't have the value Dozier did either. An OF that hits for power and doesn't suck playing OF? Yay! Those aren't that hard to find. Dozier was a power hitting excellent fielding 2b and the best player on the team. Personally even though it's a bit of a homer take I'm glad they didn't just take the best deal for him a year or 2 earlier. I never saw anything reported in terms of a deal that excited me all that much. If this was the NBA then yeah they probably screwed up not dealing him sooner but in Baseball you have so so so many more avenues to find really good players. It does look like they might have been wise to not give him a big contract that at some point may have made sense. Speaking of other avenues the guy they might have cashed in on was Escobar. Duran is looking like a nice prospect at this point.

The Only realstic guy on the market I would trade for is Trevor Strory from the Rockies. Your going to have to give Eddie and one of our top 3 most likely Lewis to get him tho.

If we knew his power would translate away from Coors I would do it, but he hit 24 of his 35 home runs there last year. He would be an upgrade in the field either way.
