Don' t set yourself up for disappointment by holding out false hope. The offer on the table is $50 million over 4 years. That's an average of $12.5 per year. What we don't know is how much of that amount is conditioned on meeting certain incentives. It had better not end up a penny more than $50 million.
Lip, I have read that number in a couple articles, but it was only speculation. Have you heard something more definitive?
SJM - I haven't heard anything definitive yet. But I'm convinced the reports are accurate based on who is reporting and how consistent the reports have been over a pretty lengthy period of time. And I've always pegged Pek's value at around $12 million per year.
well imho logic behind PEKs hesitation is following. PEK in his career as it is (with new CBA, his age etc.) will get only one big pay day, this year or next year, one more season in league could help him, because now he is considered to be injury prone and unexperienced so if he can put together great season his value could sky rocket, also next summer there will be many teams with big cap space for free agent class and PEK could be really valuable piece for many of them, many big markets will completely reconstructure their payrolls and if PEK plays on the same level next year as he did last year he will definitely get atleast 4/48 contract anyway, but from some famous proven franchise who is going to push hard in playoffs immediatly
I agree with cool that Pek will be a Wolf for at least the next four years, and this process will be soon forgotten. This hasn't made me like Pek any less because I presume he has turned the process entirely over to his agent. Pek is somewhat proficient in English, at least compared to Shved, but it is still a second language for him. I suspect his fast talking agent has his head spinning, and he has told him just to let him know when it's over. Let's hope it's soon.
m4, very few teams that are able to create cap space are contending teams. If the wolves aren't pushing hard for the PO's this season, then we have made a huge mistake on Pek. His value is limited by the max salary scale which isn't that much more than what we are offering. If he took the QO for this season, yes he would be a FA, but we would still be able to pay him more than anyone else, and we could pay him the max and come out the same for the 4 years. I really don't see much of a downside for us if he take the QO. Pek has to also take into account the chance of a serious injury, and then not getting anything next season. I guy would have to be a moron to take that chance to make an extra couple mil.

I am also really tired of players digging for every dollar, and then crying when they can't put together a winner due to cap restraints. If at Pek's level, he wants a max deal he should be looking at a big market. Signing him to that deal here pretty much destroys the wolves going forward. I would sooner let him walk than pay him the max.
let's be honest here. Pek getting a couple mil more than he should won't be the reason why this team can't sign free agents.
NOT signing Pek will do more harm than good than keeping him to an overpaid deal. That's what I don't get from us as fans. We know from day 1 that we'll need to overpay people to keep them here, yet when it comes time to do so at best we're kicking and screaming at the sheer thought of it.
I think the 12.5 is already overpaying enough. Add that to Bud and Brewer getting too much, and that is another mle level player that we could have signed. So every time we overpay it hurts the team talent level. Nobody is saying not to sign Pek, but it is silly to bid against ourselves when we have him at the QO for the upcoming season at the very least.
Eh, I am fine at 4/50. It is not a horrible deal because he is a very talented player. I expected this amount. If we go past 52 that is insane. I wanted him at 4/48, but he is not worth over 12M. Then you add 5% for being Minnesota and you get 12.6 a year, haha. If they exceed that they are insane.
well sjm normally i would agree, but next year is kind of different you have already multiple good teams who are going to have significant cap space, you got Lakers, Celtics, Mavs already, then you have some more teams who will clear space for Lebron race, like Cavs who didint want to commit big money to C this year and Bynum is just shot similar to what we did with Roy,to some extend you have 50 proc chance of Heat having huge cap space etc.
Change at the GM spot makes a big difference. And here's why.
From what I've gathered sitting next to some of the Wolves insiders----is that Pek isn't all that injury prone. Despite missing many games last year, they (my sources) said that Pek was able to play but the staff were playing it cautious in keeping him out. Perhaps with Khan here, that a wink-wink deal was already in place and he ok the DNP. But the boss is gone and now there's a new one trying to mark his territory. That's why there's no budge. Pek's group probably said---hey, we could have played more of those games---and Flip's reply would be....but you only played "x" amount of game therefore "injury prone". We can't pay you premium money (max) because of this.
Think for a second, if you're on your contract year and you knew that this was the ONLY major deal that you get---wouldn't you tough it out and play every game?! Pek's not going to get another 50M deal after this one (he would be in his early 30s). The very guy that perhaps authorized those DNPs and said that "he wanted him in his shoe box" is now gone and can't give him that money.
I really don't know if this is the case, but I do for certain know that Pek could have played in more games last year but the staff kept him out.
