Building up that Iowa Wolves roster. He shot the 3 poorly last year in the G-league but is an excellent FT shooter and based on some quick video he has a nice shot. Very good rebounder for a guard. 6'7" with a 7' wingspan from what I can gather. He looks pretty lengthy.

He fits into the "get as many wing-like players as possible" strategy and hope a couple of them turn out to be good.

Good grief.

Best line of the week, monster.

Classic Zach LaVine line....shot it well, but a +/- of -26 in only 23 minutes.

That last roster spot is interesting. My guess is...I'm staying what is probably obvious but I'll lay out what I think.

The Wolves would be happy to resign McLaughlin to a 3-4 year deal for the vet min or maybe slightly more. McLaughlin likely wants more than that and probably doesn't want to lock himself into more than 2 years if it's a cheap deal. What leverage do the Wolves have? Well McLaughlin is a RFA and right now they have him at the qualifying offer of a 2-way contract. What I'm not clear about is if he plays a 2nd 2-way contract is would he still be a RFA next season of they gave him a qualifying offer of a NBA vet min deal? If so the only way out is another team offering him a deal. Which brings up who is left out there. Cam's suggestion for a cheap depth guard Shaq Harrison isn't signed. There are a bunch of vets and moderately interesting young players that don't have a team. There are not many roster spots and some good teams might keep a spot open for a buyout or to sign a vet down the road. So unless some team suddenly has a need for a bench PG and they want to try and get McLaughlin instead of someone else that's available possibly for the same price or less...he doesn't have many options.

What could change in favor for McLaughlin is if the Wolves have an injury to a PG then suddenly the Wolves might want to get something done. The Wolves are trying to get him back for as little as possible and likely locked in for multiple years also. Would McLaughlin have to settle for playing as a 2-way player again of they can't reach a deal? I would think taking a year off and playing overseas wouldn't been too enticing in a pandemic but it might pay well. I wonder how long this will go on. Daniel House ended up with a decent deal for the Rockets after an interesting road to get there. If for some reason RHJ doesn't make the team that makes things easier. I'm hoping RHJ makes the team because I think he has a chance to be a solid depth guy or better for the Wolves.

Didn't Nowell wrap up the 3rd PG spot tonight? ;-)

Unfortunately, Jarred Vanderbilt's contract is guaranteed for 2020-21 or else I'd say he should probably be on his way out to make room for both Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Jordan McLaughlin while retaining Jaylen Nowell, but that's no longer an option.

I get the intrigue with Nowell. I really and truly do, but seeing a path for him here is difficult right now with all the young wings that are ahead of him. It's not like Josh Okogie, Jarrett Culver, or Anthony Edwards are sure things either, but there's more invested into those guys right now.

With all of that said, unfortunately, I can totally see Gersson Rosas waiving Hollis-Jefferson in favor of keeping Nowell and bringing back McLaughlin. I just don't think Rosas values frontcourt players like he does guards.

I like RHJ almost as much as you do but...his best option was a nonguarranteed deal with the Wolves. The league didn't seem to value him particularly highly either.

As for Nowell they have him locked in for 2 more years after this one. They have time to have him be a developmental guard till they sort things out.

Meanwhile if they do move on from RHJ they can add McLaughlin to the roster and add a frontcourt player on a 2-way contract. Last year both Wolves 2 way players looked to actually be worthwhile players so maybe the Wolves find another contributor that way. I'd rather have RHJ than that guy but I also might like Nowell more than whatever 2-way player we may sign. All these guys might actually not be worth fretting over but it feels a little different like each of McLaughlin, RHJ and Nowell have shown something worth posting about their value for a final roster spot.

I'd definitely like mcglaughlin back (at the minimum), but not at the expense of losing nowell. We finally saw what he's capable of tonight and I need guys like him on this team to keep me remotely interested
