In small spurts both Dunn and Jones do some things well, sample sizes lead me skeptical. Like when Ricky shoots 3-7 and all of a sudden he has it figured out.
What can you take from guys that play most their minutes against the other teams less talented players? Yes Jones has a nice jumper, how would he fair getting it off against Wall? Yes Dunns D looks great, how would he hold up for 36 mins a game against the Wests strong lineup of pgs? None of these guys hold up well to the top flight pgs in the league till they actually show it. I can't speculate that they will. What I see from Dunn gives me hope on one side of the ball.

The top guys don't even stop each other. All you can do is make them work more and Dunn does it on one side of the ball and Tyus does it on the other. Rubio for the most part does neither.

So play them both at the same Time? Otherwise your giving it away on one end just to take it back on the other. How about we work towards a plan that involves our pg winning their matchup every so often. Right now we're just happy if they don't get embarrassed

Saying the 3 wolves PGs don't do anything at the elite level isn't really fair but I get where the point was coming from. Rubio is well above average as a passer easily arguably elite and he has been elite getting steals (doesn't mean he is a good defensive player). Dunn and Jones strengths are theoretical right now although Jones feel for the game does look pretty legit and Dunn's physical ability and some splash plays already defensively and work getting around screens looks pretty good. It's an interesting mix of players and it's going to be interesting to see how all three end up fitting into the league the next 4 or so years. I include Rubio because he could end up as a backup.

Above average, pretty good, feel for the game is not listed under elite as definition in the dictionary . I just checked to make sure. ?

Pork, This team is being built around KAT and its two starting wings in case you haven't noticed. This isn't a first. How often did Derek Fisher or Mario Chalmers win their matchups? Both have multiple rings. Thibs is phasing out the need for a ball-dominant PG. We'll see where we end up in another year or two in terms of that position, but right now his goal isn't for our PG to outscore the opposing team's PG.

Mr. Fisher was relied upon to hit big shot after big shot over the course of his career and he did win his share of match ups along the way. Don't put words in my mouth , I did say every so often. Ricky rarely wins his one on one matchup.

Fisher averaged 7 points a game and shot 38% from the field the last year the Lakers won a title. And he was their starting PG. No, he didn't win "his share of matchups" that year with those numbers. But you are absolutely right that he hit plenty of big shots when left open.

By the way, Rubio won his matchup last night.

At the ripe oleg age of 35 , I dont recall giving you a specific year that he won his match ups every so often only that he did during his career. Ricky has dreams of shooting 38% . Yes Rubio won his match up last nite, if I checked each game this year how comfortable would you be in saying he won his match up?
Anyways, getting off topic. I guess my point was if you have 3 pgs all having different abilities and flaws you just complicate matters when you trade one out with the other. I would like to see a more well rounded vet brought In who brings some consistency to the table.

Duke13 wrote:Tibs is stuck in a tough spot with Tyus, you have an established vet in Ricky and a high draft pick in Dunn. We could debate and have debated Ricky and Dunn's roles/playing time on this team. Ricky gives us the best shot to win now and Dunn is the high draft pick with the highest upside of all three, simple as that I think.

My views on what should be done are we'll known. I will disagree with Lip, I think a lot of people on this board having been asking for Tibs to find some consistent minutes for Tyus, and are intrigued with his ability to stabilize things on the court.

Duke -- I think your analysis on why Tyus doesn't get much playing time is spot on -- i.e., that Ricky gives us the best shot to win now while Dunn has the biggest upside of all three. I don't think we disagree that a lot of people on this board have been calling for more minutes for Tyus and I'm one of them. I was just referring generally to fans and pundits undervaluing Tyus. With Zach probably out the rest of this week, Tyus should have an opportunity for meaningful minutes. I hope Thibs gives him the opportunity.
