I like Tyus, particularly I like what he can potentially offer offensively, but right now he's a #3 PG, he offers no defensive presence, and with him, Ricky, and Dunn, we're flooded with young PGs anyway. Combine that with the fact that our new head coach is a defensive minded guy...

I completely buy it.

Did you look at the FG% of the Pgs this preseason?

Nope, but after multiple years of watching the Wolves absolutely destroy teams like the Spurs in preseason and looking unstoppable only for the regular season to come and the Wolves end up with 16 wins.

This team is more talented, but I'm not going to assume anything from the preseason that we haven't seen previously in the regular season.

Gocha. Here is the funny thing Thibs is a defensive coach but when has he had a defensive PG? It seems plausible he would be perfectly fine with an offensively talented 3rd PG.

I'd argue that Rondo was a terrific defensive pg

You keep bringing that up. Thibbs had Derrick Rose who was a three time All-Star averaging 20-25 pts/game. Last year Tyus averaged 4.2 points/game in 15.5. minutes. Those are not compariables IMO. If Tyus can get to 8-10 points/game I think that would be good for him. But that's not enough to give him a pass on defense like a Derrick Rose.

Sure but what about all the backup PGs that Thibs had in Chicago that weren't defenders? We are talking about a depth guy not an Allstar level player.

Edit:

The point I am making is saying comments like "Thibs likes defensive guys so player X who hasn't played D before is a goner" doesn't exactly seem so certain to me based off of what we have seen with players Thibs has coached before.

I think you nailed it there Monster. Thibs also talks about how much he values his PGs being able to effectively organize the offense and keep turnovers down. That is right up Tyus's alley and something he's been known for since his prep days.

It should be interesting to see what happens over the weekend, as rosters need to be set by Monday. That doesn't preclude further moves in the future of course, but I kind of feel like after Monday we'll stay put until we get closer to the trade deadline.

I understand what you guys are saying and they are fair points. I was a big Tyus guy from day 1. I thought he'd play this year and show improvement. But once Dunn fell onto our laps, it sort of changed everything. I know some thought Dunn could play SG and that would allow Tyus to get onto the court. We haven't really seen that though in pre-season. So where does Tyus fit? It would take an injury to Rubio or Dunn to get him out of a suit and tie most nights. And if that happened, would they turn to Tyus to fill PG minutes or LaVine? IDK. He's not really an asset to the team if they are not going to play him. So, if we can flip him for a more usable asset/need, then why not?

I highly doubt we're going to get 82 games from both of these guys. Hell, Rubio has already practically killed himself the way he has defended this pre-season. He's been all over the floor.

Also, we are very light on wing depth, especially at SG (meaning we literally have only one "natural" SG and that's our current starter). If LaVine, Wiggins, Rush, or Shabazz get hurt, we almost have to play Dunn at SG because he's big enough to guard most opposing SGs. Then who backs up Rubio?
