Re: Better than I thought
Late last season... Minnesota lost to GSW 110 - 101 on the road. Minnesota actually had a lead after one quarter in that one before GSW won easily. Did that 66-loss squad show heart and a desire to compete too? Or, does it not fit the narrative? Or, in my opinion... does it just not fucking matter?
Starting lineup:
LaVine
Wiggins
Martin
Hamilton
Payne
With only Budinger and Brown off the bench.
As a fan of the Wolves since 1989... the days of championing a "moral victory" after a 13-point loss at home (after trailing by 17 points within the first 8 or 10 minutes) to a team traveling into town from Memphis the day of the game does absolutely nothing for me.
I don't care how young or how injured the Wolves would be. That's such a defeatist mentality.

I guess this would be the best way to state my opinion, the Wolves were running full open throttle just to end the game like they did while GS never really floored it. That's what makes judging a game like last night hard, I just don't see the game as being as close as the score because GS had plenty left in the tank but never felt the need to unleash it.
Oh I agree. They were in control. But my point was I expected to be blown away last night. They are the best team in the NBA. We were the worst (last year). And we were down one of our best players in Rubio. I expected it to be over by half time. We hung around. Yes - they probably could have stepped on the gas more. But we didn't quit. Guys are playing hard. And GS had to play a whole game. It's a moral victory (for me at least). Let's be honest....GS is going to blow away a lot of teams this year.
Don't mean to keep being the Debbie Downer here...
1. I don't see the game as being as close as the scoreboard said it was. Therefor to me it was really no different than a blowout. Just me, not trying to say you're wrong, or a liar! :-d
2. It's easy to compete hard for 48 futile minutes when you're in your 8th game and 4-4. I'll be impressed by their effort if they compete hard for 48 futile minutes when they're in the 48th game and quite possibly looking up at teams with .500 records.
I guess the salve for me would be related to the play of a few individuals on the team, but I take nothing away from the game in terms of team progress. Just to hard to measure knowing GS wasn't running full steam for more than half the game.

Come on guy. Certainly you can understand that when the Wolves played GS late last year - GS already had already locked up the #1 seed in the Western Conference. GS was sleep walking. And yes - I believe our team played hard that game last year too considering we were under manned (we had like 7 healthy guys) Does it "fucking matter"? Obviously not to you. But to me? Yes it does. I like watching my team play hard. I didn't see that all the time last year. And so far this year (knock on wood), they seem to have more fight in them.

Meh. Seems like we're creating our own narratives.
That team last season still played hard. And they still lost 66 games. "Yeah, but GSW was sleepwalking then... but trying really super hard yesterday."
Meh. I see the same thing with both games. A super good team easily beating a team that's not close to its level. Simple as that. I just don't see why anybody would get giddy or even call a 13-point home loss (when it was never close) a moral victory 8 games into a season.
4 straight road wins. That's something to celebrate and give praise to... not what we saw last night (unless we're Warriors fans)

IMO you are the only one creating "a narrative". Who's "giddy"? I'm content with the team as a whole. I didn't expect them to be 4-4 to start the year. And I didn't expect them to be within 6 points of GS in the 4th quarter of last night's game - especially without Rubio. In that regard, this team has exceeded my expectations. But that doesn't make me "giddy". And I hate to break this to you but....If you truly only care about "Wins" then you are watching the wrong team Pal. We're not there yet. But that doesn't mean some fans (like me) can't find something to be content about.

I think we're discussing two very different things.
I was talking about one game (a 13-point loss against a team on the tail end of a back-to-back) not the entire season. The Wolves being 4 - 4 (with 4 road wins of all things) is a surprise to me and many others and is a positive thing. I don't think that's the debate I was having though.
The Wolves overall have been a nice surprise. Maybe that's why I'm ready to move on from moral victories for 13 point home losses.

He was half falling down, fading away, from like 40 feet....and he just drained it. He is a shot maker like no one else I have ever seen play the game. Everything is just so fast with him. Seems he has the ball for about a 1/4 second, and then it is gone and in the basket.
he honestly might end up with more made 3's then the entire Wolves team

I think if BlondeRicky plays, they win.
I don't think it's fair to compare that game in Oakland from late March to last nights' game. The Warriors had clinched everything by that time, whereas in this game, they haven't clinched anything.
One last point: I watched the postgame on TNT. I think Barkley's plan to nitpick every current player's defense until everybody thinks he played defense at all.

There is no "debate". There are only "opinions" in this instance. And it's really not your place to say that I (or anyone for that matter) cannot have an opinion. It's a long season. And we are most likely going to lose more games than we win. With all the losing, some Fans (like me) need to find a way to stay interested. If some fans are able to stay interested because they feel the Wolves played GS close last night without Rubio, then - let them.

I don't know what you're trying to do...
Any opinion is fine in this case. Mine. Yours. The next guy. I never claimed you have to agree with me. And I didn't make any character assassinations or anything. I just voiced my opinion and tried to add context to it. So I don't know why that's a big deal.
[Note: Also don't get the difference between "debate" and "opinions." I thought an discussion with two sides could be construed as a "debate." But meh... guess it's not that important to argue about.]
