Who is the coach who is going to tutor Towns/Okafor? I feel we need a guy solely assigned to whoever we pick first overall to work on their game and optimize the pick. I guess they plan on doing what the Spurs did when they drafted Duncan when they paired him with Robinson. Guess rookie will be seeing a ton of KG.

If we need another coach to tutor Okafor or Towns, then I don't know what the fuck Kevin Garnett's gonna do. That's the only acceptable reason to re-sign his old ass at this point.

I don't know I think having that vet in the locker room is very vital for a young team as a whole. I think having Garnett and a dedicated coach will be invaluable to our young big. Getting a coach to work on Towns' footwork and post game or getting a coach to work on Okafor's defense and midrange game is vital. Garnett isn't a coach, and while I think he can really help, we need a dedicated coach to really work on the fine details. We just have to nail this pick if we want to be serious contenders over just being playoff hopefuls.
Re: Ford - Mock 6.0
I really hope we keep it simple and draft towns and not do anything else with the first pick. Towns is the near consensus #1 pick. He also happens to fill a need for the team and is the better fit to the team needs between okafor and himself. This is the most logical choice.
As far as big man coach, Calvin Booth is our big man coach I believe. I dont know much about him though. Jack sikma was the big man coach under adelman and I thought he did a good job with pek's development and dieng in his rookie season. We have kg as the vet mentor and Im sure he can help.

Thanks for the info.
Re: Ford - Mock 6.0
This thread has turned eerily similar to the one I started about Pek before this last season. Everyone was still high on Pek as a contributor and focal point of the offensive noting that his trade value wasn't real high cuz of his injuries.. Then the season started and he got hurt and everyone has abandoned him as a piece of the future and a trade asset. So right now Rickys value isn't real high but he's one sprained ankle away from being a number 5pick worth absolutely nothing. Is he closer to upping his value right now or is it on the cusp of being worth absolutely nothing?? I'd hedge my bet and trade him while he's still worth what you guys perceive to be a top 10 pic .
Re: Ford - Mock 6.0
I think Towns at this point could be a better fit with Rubio becasue of his outside shooting but he point about Rubio being terrific at feeding the post is a good one.
I think the point about who is the bigman coach on the coaching staff is a good one. Unless someone knows something I don't there isn't one. Bring back Sikma or somebody that works with Bigs. Booth is more of a scout guy as far as I know and the dude wasn't particularly skilled offensively not that he can't teach, but yeah. Bayno worked alot with Pek also when he was successful.

It's not one thing. He can't shoot and he can't finish at the basket which are two of the most important pieces of scoring. The problem is the total scoring package, not just the shooting. He has the ball in his hands more than anyone else and he can't score the basketball. That's a huge problem. He doesn't need to be an elite scorer, but how many games has he even scored 20 points in his career? He's not even close to a good scorer. He needs to score 15-20 PPG's to take that next step otherwise if he is capped out at 10/9/5 I don't see how he can be even the 4th best player on a good team. I just think your primary ball handler needs to be able to score even if he is still a pass first PG to be able to keep teams honest and not have you playing 4 on 5 especially in clutch situations where they'll take away other options and force him to beat them.
He makes the other players all better. On court vs off court numbers back it up. And he's likely the best passer in the NBA, regardless of assist stats...Rubio has so many passes that lead to scoring it's ridiculous. (not talking hockey assists either) He's also a very good rebounder for his position, a very solid overall defender, and an underrated floor general.
The negatives on him are his recent injury history, combined with his scoring. If we could end up with Russell out of the transaction (along with Towns), by say....trading with the Lakers, then I'd be interested, but if not, it's not worth it.

Re: Ford - Mock 6.0
I was at 80%, but I'm 100% Towns now. Just too many reasons not to take him:
--Works his butt off
--Already in amazing shape
--Anyone who watches him work out is blown away (see Don MacLean in this latest video)
--Sounds like he can really shoot (didn't get much of a chance to show this at Kentucky)
--shoots it well from the line
--well spoken, confident, yet humble kid
--already has some chemistry with Wiggins
--unlike Okafor can play the 4 making him a much better fit with either Pek or Dieng
Rumors will continue to circulate about Flip liking Okafor, but I'd be SHOCKED if come draft day we don't take Towns. It's close to a no-brainer right now.
