I assume the "free on July 1st to go anywhere" comment from Flip is what the Bjelica deal is waiting for:
Jon Krawczynski ?@APkrawczynski 20s20 seconds ago
As reported yesterday: Wolves close to deal with Euroleague MVP Nemanja Bjelica. Expected to be finished next week. Figure most/all of MLE
Also, Doogie tweeted that LoBrown will likely be on the Summer League roster as well. Tyus needs a back up, right? I wonder if LoBrown has a chance to be our 3rd PG in the regular season? Doogie also indicated that LoBrown has several "guarantees" that will kick in over time, the first one coming in August.

But I also think the front office has serious doubts about whether Pek will be able to contribute anything. We may have a Brandon Roy retirement situation on our hands.
Here's where the ghost of David Kahn still haunts us. If Pek doesn't retire, but can't contribute decent minutes even on a limited basis, we are stuck with a big untradable contract for 3 more seasons. That's a $12 million cap hit each of those seasons. Short of retirement, the only mechanism for getting Pek's salary off the cap count would be the one-time amnesty option in the CBA. Unfortunately, Kahn already used it on Darko when Kahn was desperately trying to clear cap space to sign Roy and make his meaningless offer to Batum.
As I said at the time, the Darko signing was one of the most idiotic moves I've ever seen in professional sports. Darko was already a well-established bust and no other NBA team wanted the guy. He was about to go back to Europe before Kahn jumped in and gave him a multi-year $5 million per year guaranteed contract.
So nice to have Flip in charge! I had my doubts about Flip at the beginning, but he's proven himself and then some as head of basketball ops. I may not agree with everything he has done (Payne trade and selling pick #27 two years ago), but I am confident that all his decisions are well grounded in solid analysis and thorough research. And I have a lot of confidence in his judgment.
I have to say that I think giving an oft injured 290lb guy a five year 60 mil deal when he wasn't getting any other offers from other teams ( and could only get 4 years) seems like a much worse move than giving a guy a 3 year 15mil deal. Flip has clearly over paid Bud, Pek and Ricky over the last couple of seasons, and all three have serious injury concerns as well.
The lucky part with Pek is that he is realistic about his health long term, and may decide to take an injury retirement. I believe that would wipe him off the cap, but I don't see a big difference going forward with the cap taking such a big jump over the next couple of seasons, and the wolves having so many guys on rookie deals.

I'd be OK with LoBro making the team as a 3rd PG. I didn't think he was awful or anything. He certainly has size for the position. Maybe Jones starts off in the D-League and LoBro starts as backup to Rubio? Then when Tyus dominates the D-League, bring him back - full of confidence. LoBro put up 17 pts/5 assists in D-league, so that would give us a good measuring stick. We'll see. A lot will depend on how much LaVine plays PG I assume.

I don't' see the wolves having the roster space for brown.

I think we need to carry a 3rd guard. I hope it is a vet for minimum or LLE. I would be calling Jeremy Lins agent and begging him to sign for a year at LLE. Sell him on Rubio injury history and chance to rebuild his brand in the league and hit the market again next offseason.

I am convinced we will sign a 3rd PG. If it's not LoBrown, then it will come towards the end of free agency when some guys that can play are having a difficult time finding a home...

I think it is more likely that Flip just pencils in Zach as the 3rd PG if needed. That all changes if Flip finds a way to clear up the PF position somewhat.

There is still a 15th roster spot open. They want LaVine at SG. I don't see them going into the season (and definitely not the pre-season) with only Rubio and Tyus at PG.

It will be interesting to see if we extend qualifying offers on Hamilton and/or Hummel...
BTW, this is going to be a LONG off-season with the Wolves having virtually nothing left to do!

God no Bleed. Lin is a poor fit.
