Bud Heading to The Pacers

I like the move, the playoffs are not the goal this year. Give the minutes to the young guys, bud can play the 2 and 3 so he'd be behind Wiggins/Lavine/Kmart/Bazz and even Bjelica if he plays some 3. Under no circumstances do I want this team to waste minutes this year on middle of the road players who will not be part of the team going forward.

Besides, people are suddenly expecting Bud to contribute after two years of nothing, and a short tease at the end of last year while they write of Pek and in some cases Rubio.

I wasn't expecting Bud to play a minute unless we suffered significant injuries again, which is likely. Does anyone ever wonder why our completely falls apart while others seem to move along without missing a beat when they lose guys to injury. This trade is an example why.

Wasn't Bud playing a lot last year when our season fell apart? Don't think he's going to make much of a difference if we suffer major injuries again.

He was playing without any confidence. He actually looked to gain his shooting stroke back late in the year, and he is better than having another guy Hummel who can't consistently hit the 3, and is less athletic.
I don't care about the salary cap since we aren't signing anyone this year.

It's not like Chase was a great three point shooter. At least this Rudez guy can hit them at an above average rate

Wow you are petty, Chase is a completely average 3 point shooter. Since you claim he is above league average lets look at the numbers.

For his career he shoots above league average? What do you mean for this year? Yeah but he his below average for 2/5 years and at the average for one. He is not a great three point shooter he is totally average (and the league average takes into account players like Rubio)

Just for fun here is Rudez who is an above average shooter 14-15 - .406 (69-170)

It's also interesting that Rudez's 3-point shooting was trending upward the last two months of the season. Significantly!

Bud wanted out. Rudez brings a skill the Wolves have been lacking, but also gives "easier to swallow" roster flexibility with either a trade or waive.

I love the trade. Not taking back years and less salary is great for us. I just get a bad feel about AB and am ready to cut ties with him and would love to find a similar trade.

I am assuming the Pacers have plenty of cap space since they lost West and Hibbert of the roster.

Indiana is WAY under the cap right now. They can take Bud's salary without sending anything out!

And the Wolves did themselves a favor. Rather than merely trading Bud for Rudez, they structured their end of the trade as taking Rudez into one of their smaller trade exceptions, and then trading Bud to the Pacers for nothing in return, thus creating a brand spanking new trade exception of 5 mil that is good for one year (not that we'll ever use it, but it does create potential flexibility for any future trades).

[Edit: To answer your question, lloyd, the matching rule for trades does not apply for a team that is under the cap, as long as they remain under the cap upon completion of the trade. The Wolves end had to fit the matching rule since they are over the cap, which it does. ]
