The one player Flip singled out with praise after tonight's loss at SA: Chase Budinger. And that's all I got to say about that

LST--
I am more impressed with Kawhi every time I see him. There just isn't anyone his equal defensively in the NBA. That's one of the reasons Stanley Johnson is still high on my board. Both Johnson and Leonard were SoCal high school legends, and led their teams to impressive records (state championships in Johnson's case) with defense and close-in shooting...neither was considered a great shooter in high school or college (although Stanley is clearly the better shooter). Johnson was compared to Leonard when he was in high school, and the consensus was they were similar players, but Kawhi was Stanley light...Johnson was just that much more dominant. I still think Stanley could be a difference maker in the NBA, just like Leonard has been

Good post LST. I am ready to try anything.

- Even though I think Flip is blatantly pulling a tank job, I actually thought the players gave a halfway decent effort. They were simply out-skilled, out-smarted, and out-coached.

- How is it that everyone on the Spurs can shoot? Damn, they know how to churn out shooters, something that has evaded our franchise for years. Danny Green, Patty Mills, and Kawhi Leonard weren't even close to being this good at shooting in college. It's amazing.

- Hamilton once again demonstrated that he's a smart, solid player. But he's just not built to compete in the top of a rotation in the Western Conference. I like him as a 4th or 5th big though. I have to give credit to Flip on this one. Hummel and Hamilton are a couple of decent, cheap end-of-bench types. Hope to see them on the squad next year.

- Nice to see LoBrow run the point. Why he doesn't get more burn at PG with LaVine off the ball is baffling. He ran a beautiful pick and roll play with Hamilton where he threw a perfectly timed pass to him. I like his defensive intensity as well. He's a big, strong PG.

- Wiggins with another "meh" outing. I still don't think he runs the floor hard enough. I've seen more fast break buckets by Hamilton lately than Wiggins. Andrew is going to be a very good player, but he'll never be truly great if he doesn't hustle and play harder.

- KG needs to retire and become a team consultant, assistant coach, or player development specialist - whatever makes sense. But it's a waste of a roster spot and salary cap for him to continue playing.

I'm gonna try not to be rude but what in the hell are you talking about? KG should retire? You are gonna tell me that he can't still provide productive minutes to a playoff quality team? Dont be mad that he's not playing in a season that means next to nothing. You want MN to spend on Hamilton and Hummel? Why? How are they decent end of the bench types while KG is a wasted roster spot? I think you got it backwards, KG can tangle with just about any big in the league for 20 mins a game and provide good defense and energy to the whole team. If games mattered he'd be playing! Hummel has maybe above average basketball IQ and gets after it but his metrics and game tape show his true value #CrapYouDon'tSpendMoneyOn

Hummel & Hamilton are exactly the type of guys you don't want to waste roster spots on.

Yeah, because bigs that shoot under 37% don't grow on trees and we might have sold our first rounder anyway. Atlanta is a terrible organization that can't evaluate talent so Flip stole this future Hall of Famer for peanuts.

Payne shot terribly his first six games with us, but in all fairness they were his first significant NBA minutes, and how many rookies don't struggle out of the chute...it's just a different game than college. But he is learning the NBA game, and is shooting 46% in his 7 games this month. Payne is not the problem with this club right now.

Wow, the bar has been set really low then. Give me Wiggins, Rubio and I'd trade the entire rest of the team for Gobert in a heartbeat, but I don't think Utah is that dumb. Anyway, we really need to get lucky in the draft next year and seize the top big available.

Payne is going to contribute to this team. I like that he hustles and is athletic, has great length. That is all I could ask from any mid round 1st or later. Sometimes teams luck out and get more out of those picks but they are the exception to the rule. Payne has talent, easiest thing in the world to point out a players faults. But I see real possibilities there and look forward to rooting for him in the years to come.

I mean......

True, but how are they each used? Does Flip have them both running the same plays? Lavine seems to pass the ball and run to the corner a lot. idk.. just get the feeling Flip has him on a shorter leash and isn't cutting him loose. We don't see him attack the basket enough.

Agreed. It's too easy to pick someone apart with their faults. Payne actually has some promise and very well could end up being a solid rotation guy. I'll take that with a 15th (or lower) first round NBA pick.

Because for what kg is worth now is about a quality role player who will play 20 minutes a game for hopefully 60 games a year. But what is he going to get paid next year, kg is more than likely going to get 8 mil plus next year. So I would rather have hamilton and Hummel as our third string pf and c for 2 mil combined then kg for 2/3 of a season for 20 min a game at 8 mil plus.

I will take it all back if he signs for the vet min

@kekgeek 1 - You should rather have two empty roster spots than Hummel and Hamilton next year.

I'll evaluate a KG contract in MN if and when it happens until then I'll just say I want him back.

Tactical, Exactly how many games and minutes do you think KG can play next season? He only played 54 games and averaged 20 minutes last season. It looks like he will fall short of both those numbers for this season. It's not going to get any easier for him and he's clearly much more interested in settling down and getting involved in front office activities than grinding through an 82-game season. And what exactly do we have to play for next season? Do you honestly think this squad could compete for a playoff spot next year?

Hamilton and Hummel are not only cheap, smart players. They are the type of guys that will work hard in practice, not complain about playing time, but when they do get playing time, they will be solid contributors. In other words, they know what they're doing out there, unlike some of our more physically gifted rookies. And given their reasonably young age and lack of NBA experience, who is to say they can't continue to improve too?

Q- in the previous post you ask what the Wolves have to play for next season, and go on to ask if anyone really believes the Wolves can challenge for a playoff spot next season. I can't let this statement stand, because I truly believe we will challenge for a playoff spot. The Wolves are as young as any team in the league, but typically young players begin to make significant contributions in their second and third years, and especially if they have been given a lot of playing time like our youngsters have. The media was practically drooling over Wiggins, LaVine, Muhammad and Dieng during all-star weekend, and all should be ready to make a big leap next year. I also expect AB and AP to develop and take more advantage of their athletic gifts. Then add Rubio, Martin, Pek, KG, and a top 4 pick to the mix, and that sounds like a team that can make some noise. I don't expect that 3/4 of our roster will lose significant time to injuries next year, but of course if that happens again, we will again struggle.

Your question makes it sound like playoff contention for the Wolves is a pipe dream next year, and I don't think it is...although I do think a new coach would help in getting the most out of this roster.
