Exactly Khans, besides does anyone really think Rubio will even get to free agency before the Wolves push to extend him? I'll be shocked if he ever makes it to next summer when other teams can even talk to him.

Lip, extend him before next summer to get as big of a bargain now as they can. Lowry's extension should help the Wolves a bit as well as Curry/Lawson. Granted his agent can counter a bit on Curry getting less due to his ankle.

Travis Lyle Czech
@DarrenWolfson had a question, if your the 5 year designated player does that have to be the max $? Or can you do like 5/60?

Darren Wolfson @DarrenWolfson
@TravLyleCzech Max. Good question. I think there's a lot of confusion on that.

Sooo.. that has me wondering if he meant the 5th year had to be for the max or the entire contract. Based on the question regarding 5/60 I'd assume he meant the whole deal. If that's the case that's really stupid imo.

All these players signing contracts have proven themselves for the most part. Is everyone on here okay will 12 mil per for Ricky if his shooting never improves? Seems to be alot of money for a player that hasnt realized his potential yet.

As he puts on muscle I expect his finishing ability to improve his shooting percentage to league average which all of a sudden puts him on Jason Kidd's level in his prime. I have zero problem with paying Rubio 10-13 million a year

Rubio is one of the few truly marketable players on the Wolves. While on purely stats alone, he may not be worth $12M per year, there are business considerations as well. He's loved by everyone, despite his flawed shooting.

(by the way, the advanced +/- stats such as RAPM and RPM rate Rubio very highly, so when you get away from the box-score advanced stats like Win Shares, which puts a premium on shooting efficiency, he tends to do better).

Good point and good information, Q. Bottom line is that keeping Rubio should be this organization's top priority at this point. Should the Wolves give Ricky a 5-year $90 million contract ($18 million per year) like the one Kyrie Irving just got? I'd say no. But 4 years at $50 million or 5 years at $60 million like Pek's contract would be very reasonable under the circumstances. it may take a bit more than that.

To me unless Rubio really struggles this season you are gonna have to pay him now or if he hits the market next year. His value for all the reasons that have been laid out is gonna be very high and some team will offer him plenty of money. And if he improves... Might as well get it done this year it might actually save money as long as its not a Kyrie/Wall contract.

I could see Cuban going all in on Ricky next summer. He has let it be known that he is a big fan and the Mavs seem to be keeping flexibiilty year in and year out. That alone could raise his price next summer so I am a fan of getting a deal done this summer.

The first year of the deal has to be for the max, but I think the remaining years could decrease. The wolves could give Ricky a five year deal making him the designated player, but then have his salary decrease each year over the final four seasons. Something like 15, 14, 13, 12, and ending at 11 mil for the final season. Five years for 65 mil would be the total. I would be OK with that, mainly because it gives us more cap space when we are most likely to need it. I see more teams structuring deals this way.
