Re: Redo In Memphis - Wolves at Griz GDT
Hit fast forward on the DVR through the 4th. But I couldn't help but notice the Wolves took 16 free throws in the 4th after taking 15 through 3 quarters. LOL.
Just one of those games. Memphis shot well. Played with energy and aggression. And the officials... well... they played into it quite a bit at times.
The end of the 3rd quarter was the difference. The Wolves fought back from 14 down to cut it to 4... despite not getting the call on 3 or 4 obvious foul calls (even Austin Rivers on the Peacock feed was incredulous about the no calls).
They started to play uber physical... which led to 4 quick fouls. 4 point lead went to 12 just like that.
Conley had a HORRIBLE game. Clark had a HORRIBLE game. Reid had a HORRIBLE game. Bones had a HORRIBLE game.
As noted by others, the bench is the problem. It's also the secondary problem. And maybe the 3rd biggest problem too. So there's just no feasible way that the Wolves are doing anything at the trade deadline other than picking up a bench guy or two.
Can you imagine the disaster if the Wolves dumped three of the top 6 guys for Giannis only to be the league's worst team whenever Giannis or Ant sits. That silly rumor can die now.
It can be argued the Wolves have the league's worst bench despite having the league's 6th man of the year. That's just how bad the rest of the bench is. Just awful.
[Note: I thought the Wolves were in trouble even as they were cutting that 3rd quarter lead down... Edwards wasn't even trying to close out on open shooters. They just got lucky that Memphis missed a couple.]

I think you hit the nail on head, Abe. We have a terrible bench outside of one of the best bench players in the League. And yes, the Giannis rumors are ridiculous. I don't believe the cyber chatter about the Wolves at the forefront of the Giannis sweepstakes has any merit. I do believe TC is working hard to find a deal that improves the team's bench and that he's likely looking for a glue guy and/or defensive stopper to solidify the second unit just as he pretty much told us at the stakeholder meeting a few weeks ago. We'll see if he comes up with anything.AbeVigodaLive wrote: ↑Mon Feb 02, 2026 10:28 pm Hit fast forward on the DVR through the 4th. Lip and Abe, The Giannis interest by the Wolves isn't just clickbait rumors being written about by the various NBA rags. Jon K. from the Athletic/NYT has confirmed the Wolves interest and we all know he doesn't just make stuff up. It means he has an inside source that has confirmed it.
Now whether we actually get Giannis is a different question and the odds don't seem great. But if no one else snags him by the trade deadline, than this thing is going to drag into the offseason when we potentially have more to offer.

Yeah. I called it silly not necessarily because I didn't think it had some legit reporting behind it... only that it's silly to think the Wolves could even field an NBA caliber team without one (or both) of those guys on the court.Q-is-here wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 8:36 am Lip and Abe, The Giannis interest by the Wolves isn't just clickbait rumors being written about by the various NBA rags. Can you imagine the doubles (or triples) ... (or quadruples)... Edwards would see if he was out there with Conley, Gobert, Leonard MIller and 60winTim?

Jaylen Clark is Josh Okogie. The hope we may have had for something more than this simply isn't there.

I think if something does get pulled off that it will involve multiple players coming in to the Wolves in addition to at least one other move. That doesn't mean we're suddenly going to be 10-deep with Giannis, but I'm hopeful we won't be asking 60WinTim to lace up his Chuck Taylor All-Stars!AbeVigodaLive wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 9:40 amYeah. I'm not calling him JO yet, He's in a slump for sure offensively. I would bet that he picks it up some. Didn't they say he's shooting 27% from 3? Say he starts shooting 35% which is very doable considering his open looks, I like him as a player. I say give it more time.WildWolf2813 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 9:56 am Jaylen Clark is Josh Okogie. This loss to me was more about in my mind how so many Wolves players names are being brought up in trades. I think after the deadline we bounce back big time.

60WinTim has more gravity on the floor than you would think. He lives in the gym and if he can get those Chuck Taylor's set, put the 3 points on the board. He rarely sees the ball go in the basket because he's getting back on D while making the three sign.
