Oh, and Boom.

Nope it has nothin to do with Line. It's insurance in case Rhett Ellison (who was resigned) can't come back healthy. It also adds another local guy to the roster which they have quite a few of.

Edit:

Zach Line was resigned back on March 7.

There isn't a lot written about undrafted free agents from schools outside of division I schools so this is about the most written about him I could find.

This sums up my thoughts pretty nicely.

I think it is a good pickup. In a perfect world Loadholdt would be healthy, Smith would be playing his best, and Clemmings would be better then all of them. At worst we still have Smith playing up and down which is better than what we got out of Clemmings last year. I am a little worried we got older, but these are all short deals. If guys come in and perform and then want to get paid it is a win win. I think we can let them walk and have a bunch of guys wanting to come here again next offseason.

This is a good read on what Andre Smith can do. He was rated as the best lineman on the Bengals during the playoff loss.

I think Derrick Harvey and Braxton Miller are both drafted before those spots come up, whether the Vikings hold those spots or not.

Two guys not mentioned that I would like the Vikes to end up with: That WR from that Kentucky NAIA school who ran a 4.19 40y/d at Kentucky's pro day, and that Punter from Utah.

I thought those mock results were a little unrealistic also. Do we know anything about that WR other than he's fast because there's a lot more to the position than speed when talking about drafting someone? Drafting a tackle in the first round would seal the fate for a couple guys on the line as well because I think they want to keep Clemmings and they would want to keep the new guy with Sully and Berger fighting for the C spot and with Fusco backing up the guard spots. That leaves a lot of guys to be cut based on what we have right now on the roster because I can't see them keeping more than 9 on the active roster.

We already have a WR on the roster that ran a 4.19 40 at a pro day in Terrell Sinkfield. Lol

Based on what happens in the draft. I think camp will be very interesting. I like the Boone, Smith, Griffin, and Lamur signings. They reach on anyone and hurt this team in the longterm. It will help us keep building through the draft yet not having a vet available. I do wonder what Loadholdt is thinking. That had to be a bit of a kick to the nuts, but otherwise he would have been cut. I think it will be easier for him to continue with us and show he is healthy in the pre-season. If he is cut he can they jump on another team.

Think about this Andre Smith is healthy and seems time to be a similar value player if both guys were healthy and he just signed for 3.5 million for 1 year. How much more was Loadholt really going to get on the open market if he got cut? The Vikings have always liked the guy and I am sure he wanted to come back. The Vikings took care of the guy and gave him a nice contract a few years ago and that may have factored into him being willing to take less this season on prove it deal that has 1.5 million in incentives.

I am sure he didn't expect us to sign another starting RT that is not coming off a major injury. I am pretty sure his contract has no guaranteed money this year. It makes him an easy player to cut.

Some have talked about cutting Kalil, I do not see this happening. Kalil's salary this year is fully guaranteed at $11M. Too much of a hit. At least this is his final year.
