Don't get me wrong. I haven't seen Gordon play. But Browning was a 4 year starter, 6th in Heisman ballot as a SOPHOMORE, career 150 passer rating. And he is being cast aside after ONE season for a one year starter who played for a coach known for getting his guys stats? In 2020, where the word of the day for 365 days straight is continuity? I don't know. Let's just go with KC/SM/JB and get some CB's, OG's (or OT with Reiff moving to G), and WR's, and for the love of God, a PR from the offensive side of the ball.
I am in the same boat. I just don't know about these QBs that can't get starts earlier in their careers and then have big senior years. I know it can and has been done. For the Vikings, I think he picks a guy from the 2nd tier to develop. I think if Jordan Love falls to us we have to think hard about it. James Morgan is a guy I hear a lot of buzz about and he is from Green Bay, but he bounced around a lot and is a 5th year senior. He had 1 good year, two so-so years, and bad year that caused him to transfer.

I am probably coming off too harsh. But the draft, at its core, is about upheaval. Meanwhile, you are seeing teams make moves based on continuity and hitting the ground running because they just don't know how much time they're going to have to coach guys.
Maybe Gordon has one of those moments, like when Parcells saw Romo throw that 70 yard laser. Or when Katniss shoots the apple out of the pig's mouth. Or when Eddie Felson hears Vincent break that game of 9-ball. (And maybe I've watched a lot of movies lately). But short of that, maybe just build on the year they've had with Browning. It sucks that this is the year guys like Gordon graduated and/or lost eligibility, but it beats living in a state where that governer's hero is Bankruptcy McCombover, like FL or SD.
This offseason, The Vikings (so far) are at a net loss of 3 CB's (2 of which had to be done), 2 DE's (Will Barr play hand-in-the-dirt?), a S (Really, that Kerse contract was too rich?), a G, and Diggs' Production. With SB aspirations and only 5 picks in the first 105, I'm not really understanding the whole "Let's draft a QB" or "Let's Draft a DT". To me, this is a quality draft for the Vikes, not a quantity one.
And last but not least, you and I (and Monster) are bright guys who have been around the block once or twice. In the best years, people spend WAYYYY too much time talking about the NFL draft. In a year with no live sports, no movies, no new TV, no music tours, and South Dakota headed towards extinction? Ridiculous. So yeah, "experts" are going to be talking about every graduating senior and how he fits with every NFL team. Right now on ESPN, Dan Orlovsky is making a case for Macalester's punter.

"I just don't know about these QBs that can't get starts earlier in their careers and then have big senior years." You mean like Kyle Sloter? :) I was pretty high on Sloter early in his career. I'm certainly not Sold on Gordon or quite frankly much of any of the QBs the Vikings could pick but I think Gordon is intriguing especially for what is basically a flyer if he is drafted (or maybe not) in the 6th or 7th round.

Well to be fair...
This is all driven by fans. So many fans eat up whatever. My friend sent me a screen shot of a fan who came up with a 3 way trade between the Vikings Washington and Chargers were we got Trent Williams and Bleed's guy Desmond King and Washington basically got some mid round picks. No way that deal was happening. If it wasn't for fans there wouldn't be a reason for content.
The media...at this point are trying to do something. Some of them have sold their soul but some are just trying to write stories put out some content do their thing at a time when that's tough to do in many ways. I get these emails from MLB and NFL etc with random articles about top player from every team and which team has the best water boys or whatever. I don't care about the articles (ok the water boy one I would read) but I get they gotta keep putting out something.
Back to the QBs...the Vikings have taken some shots at getting a developmental guy outside the draft. Browning is the latest guy. They paid him quite a bit of guaranteed money last year to get him as an undrafted FA. I'd have to see more of Gordon actually play but Browning looks more mobile. Heck he ran for 16 TDs in college. Meanwhile a friend of Gordon's said he is a good athlete but actually is always tripping and stuff. He has never scored a rushing TD not in college or Jr college or HS. Last year he liked like he was going to score his first one the field was wide open and he was going for it and...he tripped and fell. Lol Back to the fans. I think most Vikings fans don't think Browning is anything. I've said before I'm not sure what separates him and Minchew as prospects based on what they did in college and their scouting reports. Minchew obviously is aged now because he has done it at this level. If Browning was even the next Trevor Siemian that would be pretty good because that's a quality backup you found without even using a draft pick. QBs are the most liked and disliked players on the roster. It's kinda fun to talk about. It's fun to hope we find the next Romo or Minchew or whatever. Where is that AFL QB that was saying the Vikings didn't want him because he was gonna compete for Kirk's job? Bo Levi Mitchell That was his name. He signed in the CFL.

Yes like Kyle Sloter who went undrafted. He was strang that he changed positions his senior year.
Steven Montez is a guy I think is interesting. I like Cole McDonald and Khalil Tate are interesting prospects late too. Khali Tate has been told to switch to WR.

That screen shot you speak of was from Bill Barnwell, and I think I got the virus from reading it. I don't know what Trent Williams plans are, nor do I really care, but he had a subpar '18 and sat out '19 fighting cancer, so if he doesn't want to play for WSH and ends up on a team with a shot at the SB and will pay the final year of his deal, he really ought not demand a raise and/or extension.
You're right about the media, but you have to use that info accordingly. There are not a bunch of 3rd day and/or UDFA's that are better than Browning UNLESS it's something specific about Browning, like his mentor is Bleed's new neighbor Tommy Kramer. Short of that, I can't see anyone that is better RIGHT NOW than Browning, meaning you are starting over in an offseason where time will be at a premium, so what's the point?
OK, I don't think it's fair to say Minchew is better because it worked out. JAX overpaid for Foles so they had no choice but use a straight rookie as their backup. I am not giving JAX credit on this because I have watched from 180 miles away as they have absolutely botched that roster. And maybe Browning does the same if given the same opportunity.
"Most fans don't think much of Browning". Really? Are those the same fans who thought Aaron Afflalo and Bismarck Biyombo were good ideas, or are they the, um, EXTRA-SPECIAL fans who think Chuck Fletcher was a good GM and that there's no real difference between Josh Freeman and Colin Kaepernik? Unless there is something specific about Browning, he deserves another year on the practice squad.
Again, this is a team that has lost a lot of players and needs to figure that out. CB, WR, G (or T if they move Reiff), and PR are real issues, along with DE depending on what the plan is for Barr. QB, RB, TE, DT, and LB are luxuries.

That Joe Burrow guy who couldn't get the starting spot at Ohio State causing him to transfer to LSU sure does suck. How about that Baker Mayfield guy who couldn't start at Texas Tech and went to Oklahoma? Sometimes NFL QB's are starting in front of you and there's not a ton you can do about it.

I knew that was coming, but it is a concern. Tom Brady couldn't keep a starting job in Michigan with a young recruit. Baker Mayfield has not gotten it done and honestly after seeing him play I don't see him having #1 overall pick upside.
