Another 53 man roster. I like this one. Better.
I would cut Mannon and Brothers in my eyes. I would keep Jaleel and Epps instead.

Here is a former NFL player's pick for breakout player this year. Some people think Jaleel might not make the team but I think (listening to Patterson talk about him a couple weeks ago) he is pretty much locked in.

Good read. I was hoping Jaleel would be a big three-technique next to Joseph. Not the guy backing him up. I don't think we have the luxury to keep 3 QBs and 7 LBs. I am not sure Mannon would get picked up anywhere if we let him go. I have no doubt Sloter would. They seem to be hiding Browning.

Finding a young Linval would be pretty massive right? I'm not saying Jaleel is but if he was...DAMN
Ask yourself this about Sloter. How many teams are going to pick him up to be their primary backup? This is a guy that's never taken an NFL snap played WR for a couple years in college and played less than a season as a starting QB in college. Again Joe Webb has more college QB experience. Sure Sloter has been developing for a couple years but still. My guess is no team including the Vikings are going to have Sloter as the backup. Next you have to consider how many teams will actually keep 3 QBs? Is that like 10 teams? 20 teams? I bet there is over half the league you could eliminate from being a possible destination based on not keeping 3 QBs and not dropping their 3rd guy. Are the Colts dropping Chad Kelly to get sloter? Maybe since Sloter won't randomly be sitting in some strangers living room uninvited but he has played well in the preseason. Obviously it just takes one team but...it feels like some people think there are a ton of teams that would trip over themselves to get Sloter. 5 is plenty enough to lose him but I still wonder if the hype by fans (Vikings and Broncos fans) is too biased toward people that have only watched preseason games. Meanwhile if there are enough teams desperate enough to get this guy some team should cough up say a 7th round pick to make sure they get him. Personally I think Sloter is gonna make the team. I think he should make the team. Browning? They liked him months ago when they gave him big guaranteed money for an undrafted FA but I don't think he has done anything recently to be anything more than a guy they may want to have on the PS. In other words I don't think they are like "If we lose Sloter no big deal we have Jake Browning..." we will find out soon enough.

It is a good question. They talked about it on KFAN. If Cousins goes down. Who do you want as your QB? Mannion wouldn't be the guy. I think the Colts, Bucs, and Bills can use a guy. Mannion is not that experienced either. He is basically considered one of the worst backups in the league. I would go with Sloter since he has the upside that Mannion is not. Tier 7.

I just listened to Sloter on the Vikings podcast. The guy is incredibly easy to cheer for. He pointed out he was fortunate to end up in Denver where there was injuries and they split reps between everyone so he got lots of work there. He also said he loves it here and praised the whole organization for everything. Sure he said all the right things on a Vikings podcast but still. It really is pretty amazing what he does when he actually plays especially when he has so little experience even if it is with and against less talent. Plenty of other guys don't put together 3 straight impressive preseasons of work.
As for the backup job Sloter is a guy that basically played QB for pretty much 1 season in college and it was because the starter got hurt. The "experience" arguement against Mannion isn't a fair one as he played 4 years of college and redshirted his freshman year. Souhan on his podcast with Jon K brought up that the backup is also kind of like a 2nd coach for the starter. They work through what they see out there and all that kind of thing. I'd guess Mannion has way more ability there than Sloter. It was a while ago but Mannion was a 3rd round pick and he is one of those guys that was coached first by Jeff Fisher then by McVay. Nearly all the QBs Jeff Fisher coaches have been better since then. :) Meanwhile McVay supposedly the smartest offensive coach in the league kept Mannion around and let him go only when they got a former starter in Bortles that's still kinda young to sign there for peanuts. The idea that Mannion is for sure some absolute scrub may not really be accurate but that's the consensus that's out there. I don't have full confidence in the Vikings when evaluating QBs...far from it but I tend to challenge the idea that this backup QB or that backup QB are trash...in terms of being a backup or bridge starter.

They talked about this again this AM. Basically ripping that Cousins needs another coach in his 2nd QB. The Rams let Mannion go and picked up Bortles. That means something when Bortles is the guy that people felt had the ability but just didn't have the game. They call him the next Mike Glennon or Shaun Hill below.

Best stat::
Sean Mannion had *54* picks in college. Fumbled "30" times.

The idea that someone is the next Shaun Hill (unless they are first round pick etc) shouldn't be a bad thing. Fumbling 30 times is a pretty bad stat.
Sloter had another nice game. The INT wasn't good but really it was just a bad 25 yard punt. I'll be pretty surprised if they let him go.
