I generally try to maintain a respectful tone on this board, but I vehemently disagree with Future and Cool on this one. Trading Ricky Rubio for Smilin' Wes Johnson is one of the dumbest ideas I've heard here.

Could someone post a link for this video/s? For some reason none of my electronic devices want to play them.

KG could also pick up his option. And we could pick up the option on Rudez.

So we've got 4 roster spots available. What free agents would you target to fit in there? The most obvious spot is the 4 and 5, which would move Gorgui to playing as the first big off the bench if we could get a guy like Horford or Deng. I'd really love to land a free agent like that, though I don't want Whiteside. Who would you want?

The Noah $30 million rumor really has me puzzled about what to do. We have plenty of cap space for the next two years, but giving a player a big contract for 3-4 years is going to cause big cap issues in the year we have to pay Wig and Zach. Still, I really covet Deng, and would offer him a 2-year contract at whatever the market dictated. I also think Dunn's press conference comment about looking forward to playing with KG might be a signal that Thibs/Leydon told him he's coming back. I prefer Dunn at PG and Wig at SG until he becomes a better rebounder, so my roster would look like this:

Rubio/Dunn/Tyus
Wig/Zach
Deng/Muhammad/Rudez
KG/Belly/Payne
KAT/Dieng/Pek/banger

Let's say Deng costs us (gulp) $20 million against the cap next year, Dunn's rookie contract is $4 million, and KG opts in after we sign Deng plus one other free agent. The 13 players under contract (before KG) would add up to $79.6 million (including the remainder of the KMart deal), If the cap is $92 million, we would still have an additional $12 million to spend on one more big banger...plenty of room to sign a guy like Aldrich, Jordan Hill, or Roy Hibbert,

Dunn and even Muhammad's ability to play some minutes at SG gives enough depth there behind Wig and Zach. There's obviously uncertainty at PF, but I am quite optimistic about Belly in his second year, and G can always play there too. But if KG opts out, we would likely be looking at PF's like Marvn Williams, Nene or David Lee...several options out there that would fit under the cap.

Clearly the KG situation needs resolution before a final free agency strategy can be laid out.

I see KG coming back. I don't see him giving up $8 million and I don't see him wanting to go out the way he did last season -- just sort of fading away. So that means we'll have only 3 roster spots. IF we sign Noah, Horford or Deng, we'll have two roster spots and not enough cap room to sign the best available FA shooters. Right now, we are starved for perimeter shooters. Thibs said you can never have enough good shooters and he has stressed the importance of improving our three-point shooting. That means he's going to have to pursue the likes of Dudley, Afflalo and Courtney Lee in free agency and sign at least a couple good 3-point shooters.

It will be interesting to see if Thibs ends up trading Bazz this summer for a better long-range shooter. Don't know who that would be.

Ironically Rudez who we all assuming getting dumped would help in the shooting department. Funny stat he actually had a higher 3 point rate this year for the Wolves than he did in Indy. If he wasn't such a terrible rebounder I would think Thibs would actually like him. I would hope we can do better but remember he did play of a Pacers team that played some good stretches of good basketball during his rookie year. I'd actually be a little surprised if he isn't on an NBA roster next season because he can shoot 3's and stays ready and seems to know what he is supposed to do and not do.

I have him as our 3rd SF on my roster above, monster...he's a cheap option to round out our roster.

I was checking defensive stats earlier this spring, and Rudez was our best defender in terms of limiting opponents' FG% below their average, granted that was in few minutes usually against other teams' bench guys. I like Rudez though. He's worth the money to be one of the last guys on the roster.
