I agree, Bloop. I like Paul Pierce's comment the other day that Durant signing with the Warriors is like the guy who gets beat up by a gang of bullies and then joins the gang rather than standing up to them. It's a highly imperfect analogy, but I still like it. Bottom line is that Durant's decision was, as you characterized it, wimpy. I hate watching him pump his fist or flex after hittting a string of buckets. It's like joining the Harlem Globtrotter and then celebrating after a dunk against the Washington Generals. I'd be embarrassed if I were him. Giving three-tenths credit for the ring he'll get this year is generous.

Fuck that. He's playing Lebron James in his prime. The Washington Generals. Are you kidding me? LeBron has had a free trip to the finals for 7 years because of that wimpy conference and he's created his own super teams joining the Heat with Wade and Bosh and then Cleveland with Kyrie and then getting Love. None of that has affected his legacy in the slightest. Why should it affect KD? This notion that it's better to get beat over and over again and fail than ever succeed is dumb. At the end of the day it's about winning and he might go down as the best player in this series if he keeps playing the way he is and that would prove he more than deserved this title. There's never been a finals MVP that didn't deserve that title.

So why didn't KD join the Wizards or Boston then? He had multiple already playoff teams he could have elevated to legit title contender but instead he decides to go to the team that he was up 3-1 on and collapsed because Durant decided to play hero ball and OKC fell apart. Durant lost them that series and then joins them, a 73 win team arguably the 2nd best player in the NBA joining that. Why you would compare that to Lebron joining a team in Miami that was bounced in the first round the prior season. Lebron created his super teams Durant decided to add himself to a super team that already existed so that's a terrible comparison. It will forever tarnish his legacy and is the most pathetic thing I have ever seen in terms of player movement in any major sport. Durant can have his crackerjack box quality ring in the eyes of his peers if that makes him feel better, no matter how many rings he wins the fact that he took the easiest path possible will always hang over him. If you think he has a chance to be the best player in the series khan just make sure you don't forget it's because he took over Harrison fucking Barnes role, not exactly a lot of pressure and an easy path to skyrocketing efficiency.

Bullshit he only took over Harrison Barnes' role. He came into that team and instantly planted himself as the best player on that team. Going to the East would have been just as damaging with bullshit running away from the Warriors story lines. There was no good way to leave OKC and he was never going to win while there because of the supporting cast. If you lose in every scenario except 1 you pick that 1 and he did. Why is Durant joining the Warriors so much worse than the Celtics and Lakers of the 80's winning titles with 3-4 HOF's on each team. They were just as stacked as this Warriors team so why doesn't that hurt Larry or Magic or Kareem's legacy? Your Miami example is bullshit as well because Miami being a first round exit stopped mattering the second they landed Bosh first. LeBron joined his HoF buddies in Miami for not 1, not 2, not 3,4,5,6. That's just not joining a first round exit team so to write it off as that is just trying to make your argument look better with bullshit. LeBron took the easiest path in Miami and came out a winner. Durant will be the same in 3-4-5 years.

Going anywhere besides GSW wouldn't have been anywhere near as damaging, for god's sake use some basic context skills and be able to tell the difference between a 73 win team who had just won the year before and were a game away from back to back titles and every other team besides Cle. Then you name Magic and Bird two players drafted by and who won with their respective teams, you shouldn't need me to explain why that is different to you. Lebron, Bosh, and Wade collaborated on this move years before it actually even happened it's well documented so Bosh signing before Lebron doesn't really mean anything . You are correct Lebron and his buddies joined to go for 1,2, 3 etc. Durant however joined a team that had already went for 1, ALMOST 2 and that came with the greatest season in history, very different timelines. Lebron did not join the Celtics so no it wasn't the easiest path and Durant will never be anywhere near the same 3-4-5 or even 10 years from now. Just terrible comparisons all around from you trying to reach for anything remotely similar to as weak as what Durant did.

Well said, Bloop. I didn't like LeBron's decision to join with Bosh and Wade. But you've effectively pointed out the absurdity of comparing LeBron's action with what Durant did joining the Warriors. Something comparable to LeBron joining Wade and Bosh in Miami would have been Durant teaming with Steph Curry and joining Brook Lopez with the Nets. But a top 5 player in the League joining three allstars in their prime plus a borderline allstar Iggy on probably the best team in the League? Well, the facts speak for themselves.

His options were win with 1 team or lose with everyone else. You can either be Barkley and Malone or Bird and Magic at the end of the day. I don't know why anyone would choose to be in the first group instead of the second group. Have fun being a jaded basketball fan while the rest of us who don't care get to watch really good basketball and a great player win something he's more than earned in his career.

But he won't be Bird and Magic in that those guys won titles with the teams that drafted them. And their GMs used a series of smart moves and draft picks to build around them. It's simply not a valid comparison.

I think it's possible to view Durant as one of the NBAs all-time greats while also hating his move to Golden State at the same time. Did he have every right to make that move? Absolutely. But do fans have every right to feel like he wussed out by joining literally the best regular season team ever? Absolutely. And I'm one of them!

How much should Michael Jordon be ripped for giving up on his team to go play baseball for a year and a half?

...and how is that relevant to the discussion at hand? He had just won three titles with the Bulls.

This context you guys believe will be a stain on his career just won't when he hangs it up. I've not heard once that Magic and Bird's titles are more legitimate than say Lebron's or Kareem's titles with multiple teams because Magic and Bird got them all with the team who drafted them. That's never been a thing. It won't be a thing. It's just a thing now because people are butt hurt he chose winning over losing. Next time you get your dream job offer, make sure you turn it down to keep doing what you're doing. That's what you were expecting him to do so it's only fair.

Lol. I think he should be thoroughly ripped for stepping off his star NBA pedestal just after his dad was murdered so he could live out his dad's dream for him and ride the bus every day from one small town to another struggling to make it as a minor league baseball player.

Never has a top 5 player in the prime of his career joined the greatest regular season team of all time (without said team losing a significant core guy). I honestly believe there will be a lot of analysts, commentators, and fans over many, many years that will put a mental asterisk next the title(s) Durant wins with Golden State.

As for me, I turned down my dream job to be LST's valet, but decided to stay on the farm here in Pennsylvania. The work is hard, but every fall I look out upon that field full of crops and say to myself...."I did that....I did that". Kevin Durant will never know that feeling.....ever.
