I think if we're being honest with ourselves, we'd have to say that free agency has been a disappointment for the Wolves. It appears that we are making smart, prudent moves, which is perfectly fine. But I think a lot of us were hoping for more. Unfortunately, the market dynamics combined with our roster makeup simply make it difficult to pull off.
It ain't over yet. I expect another shooter to be signed, and you never know, a big trade could still be had. But as of right now, it's tough seeing this team compete for a top 5 or 6 spot in the West. I'm hoping we can eek in the playoffs.

From those who know, here's how Pau thing goes, Wolves fans: He goes to Spurs if KD doesn't, to Raptors or Blazers if KD unexpectedly does
10:05 PM - 3 Jul 2016
I'm still trying to figure out how the Spurs get this done without going over the cap. They currently have $80 million tied up in just 8 players, so they will have to find a way to get rid of some big contracts. If they give away Green and Diaw for nothing, they will be down to $63 million, enough to absorb Pau's $20 million, but leaving them only $11 million to fill out their roster with 7 other players. It can be done, but is it really wise to dump role players who are so central to their success like Green and Diaw in order to pick up a 35-year-old Pau? Just doesn't make sense to me. And BTW, I see no way they can clear enough cap space to sign Durant, unless Duncan retires, and even then it's difficult.
So, my questions.
1) Do you see any other way for them to absorb Pau without dumping Green and Diaw?
2) How can we use this to pick up Green? SA needs to get rid of him, and pick up cheap players to fill out their roster, so how about AP for Green?
3) Would we prefer Diaw to Green? Same deal...AP for Diaw.
Here's SA's cap situation:

I'm not disappointed at all. Going all in at this stage of the building process would be foolish in my opinion.

I'm in the disappointed camp, Q, because I really wanted our starting wings to be Wig and Deng, and I thought Thibs could get Deng here on s 3-year deal.
However, the excellent Aldrich deal is helping me cope with my emotional breakup with Deng. And I agree that we're still going to find another bench shooter...I'm intrigued by Danny Green after the Spurs make him available, but Thibs would have to believe Green's poor shooting year last season was an aberration.
No big splash in free agency torpedoes my hopes for a 56-win season...we're going to be too young in our starting lineup and too weak rebounding at the SF position to get there. I do still see us making the playoffs though, and will be quite disappointed if we don't.

I'm not disappointed in management or their thinking - just disappointed in how the chips fell. It would have been awesome to have landed Horford or Deng and don't tell me folks here wouldn't be swooning with sky high expectations had that happened.

Heh, not too surprised. Your estimate was an "everything goes just as I hope" number as opposed to "most likely outcome" number. Like I said before, you and Tim must be related or something.
Danny Green would be a major addition, although I can't believe he'd want to join a rebuilding team where he'd most likely come off the bench or be just a token starter, with LaVine getting the vast majority of SG minutes. I guess he could play some SF, but just don't see it happening.

He may not want to, but since he's under contract for $10 million a year (3rd year is his option), he wouldn't have a choice...this would be a trade, not a free agent pickup. If the Spurs/Pau rumors are true, they have no choice but to trade Green (and Diaw) for nothing, and the Spurs will take whatever deal they think is best. I don't expect teams will be lining up to help SA, but Green will likely attract some offers better than what we can offer. I suspect a team with some attractive draft picks will end up with Green.

Who was the best shooter in the D League last season? We should sign him.

...might as well just go get Troy Daniels then, although damn, we still need to spend more money! We could afford someone even better if they still exist out there!

Having to give the players a bonus for because the team is under the cap is better than signing a bad deal just to reach the floor.
