They will try to move Bogut first. There are reported to be three teams that have inquired about Bogut.
If they would take Payne for Bogut, I'd have to at least consider it. That would cost us 9M and we'd still have two open roster spots which we could focus on shooters. Bogut comes off books next year so he wouldn't hamstring us.

Maybe, they can find a way, but it's going to be tough. Bogut has to go, of course. But if they keep Klay, Green, Curry, Iggy, Livingston, Looney, McCaw and Thompson, they have $64 million tied up in those 8 players...that's only $30 million of cap space, right? And I think $28.2 (.3 X 94) goes to KD as his max. Can they sign another 6 players without exceeding the cap?

Maybe they can do it like this. They could offer a minimum contract to some meaningless player, and then still have just barely enough room to sign KD, I think they can then go over the cap by signing the 5 players whose rights they own (Ezeli, Barbosa, Clark, McAdoo and Rush). But depending how much those 5 cost them, they may find themselves paying lux tax.

Maybe they keep Iggy, but the numbers work a lot easier if they don't. I hope Leydon has already offered Payne for Iggy.

Woj linked the GS salary cap situation to this http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/gsw/salary/site which lists KD's salary as $26.5M

Hmm...don't 10-year players get 30% of the cap for their max? Is KD taking less than the max?

Good point. You are right that 26.5 is less than 30%, but I don't think Woj would link to those numbers if they weren't credible. By the way, http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2016/6/28/12050498/kevin-durant-contract-salary-money-nba-free-agent-rumorsthis article refers to the max as 26.6. Its possible there are some adjustment factors that I'm not aware of, or KD is allowed to take less than the max in year 1 and take more in later years. If you look at the spread sheet the numbers shoot up in year 3.

There is a small difference in the max per year if you go to a different team or stay. Probably due to the effect a 4.5% raise would have on the average salary when adding the extra year guys can typically get when they stay.

Duncan is gonna retire and Pau is gonna go to the Spurs. Just my prediction. Nothing confirmed yet.

Duncan retiring might make them less appealing to Pau though too.

The Spurs looked really old late in the season, I don't know how bringing in Gasol helps them long term.

Why would Duncan retiring be less appealing to Pau? If Duncan retires Pau has the minutes at C\PF he would command. It be ideal actually I would think.

It will be interesting to see what Ezeli gets now that he's not restricted. If we hadn't picked up Cole that would have been a good target for us now that it's not going to cost an arm and a leg to stop GS from matching. I also still think Rush would be a great signing for us as a 3&D veteran player and now he's completely off their books as well.

Dallas acquires Bogut in a trade. Gasol is going to Spurs after they find a taker for Boris Diaw's contract.

Just to add to Ricky's above, I'm so happy they're considering his feelings and he's going with his friend. So sweet of you GS.

The Warriors love Bogut and, sources say, are inclined to try to send him to a destination he likes. Bogut and Barnes are also good pals

Thoughts on how these recent decisions could affect us.

From the Warriors
I liked Ezeli before, but we already got Aldrich, so . . . Brandon Rush could give us some depth at the 3, but it's not like we need him. Barnes and Bogut are already gone, but I remember wondering earlier (I think in this mammoth thread) whether we should offer Barnes a max deal if KD went to GS. Oh well, that's not gonna happen. Or could be punk the Mavs two years in a row and convince Barnes to change his mind. Would you do that? Not sure he's really a max player, but he'd fit.

From the Spurs
Diaw, we could eat his salary in return for . . . something, I guess. Boban I like, but again, already got Aldrich. Obviously, it would be a better fit to get Danny Green, who had an off year last year but is still a career 40% 3 point shooter and a halfway decent defender. I doubt San Antonio would give him up though.

OKC
The big question is Westbrook. I suspect there's a good chance he turns down OKC's extension offer and they put him on the block. Wow. I love the guy's passion and intensity, but I don't think trying to trade for him would be the right move, honestly.

Now that's a good deal. Wish we were in on that!

Sources: Luc Mbah a Moute has agreed to a two-year, $4.5M deal to return to Clippers. Player option. Clips will use bi-annual exception.
