Is there any way possible this happens. You absolutely take him if this happens as I see it.

Lakers pass on him and Lazar tells people he won't play for anyone else. Nobody figured Rubio would fall to 5th and he did. Same with Noel. It can happen.

That would be awesome. People should have learned with Kobe that you should ignore the posturing and pick the best talent. We'd be silly not to take him if he made it all the way to 7th. That's a huge dip.

I can't imagine the Sixers passing on him.

If he did fall take him it's a no brainer. He can theoretically play with any of our guards.

Rubio wasn't going to play for any NBA team for at least a year in that draft. That's a tough sell for most NBA teams. That's not really comparable to Ball falling. No way he and/or his dad threaten to play overseas for a year like Kobe did.

At the time Rubio was expected to play right away, he decided to stay in Spain after we drafted him and the media of course said it was because he didn't want to play here and thus the yearly Rubio rumors began!

Didn't Lonzo's dad say his son won't play for anyone other than the Timberwolves. :)

Indirectly yes because the Lakers started here.

I think Lip was thinking Lorenzo Brown's dad. :)

A couple thoughts on the draft:

1) I know Lip touched on this in another post, but isn't it odd that there is almost nothing out there about workouts or other draftee rumors. Maybe my impression is wrong and workouts don't really start until just a couple weeks before the draft, but my impression is that it is unusually quiet out there.

2) I still crave Isaac, and am heartened to see him lasting until 7 on more and more mock drafts (Draftexpress, CBS, Fox...). Monk and Smith are becoming more fashionable, and either one of them rising into the top 6 improves our chances at Isaac. I still fear Isaac's enormous upside will be apparent once workouts start, but at least as of today, he's no longer a pipe dream at 7...I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm listening to wolfson's podcast and even if some of this is FWIW this may answer some of your ponderings.

Basically the workouts that players have done are only ones where they are ones teams visit and they are set up through their agents etc. those workouts were all last week. So teams haven't done the hands on individual workouts for the top players yet. Fringe guys are going through workouts but not the top guys. Wolfson reports guys like Isaac, Collins and Smith will be coming early in June.

Wolfson says Tatum and Fox aren't working out for the Wolves because they both consider themselves top 5 picks. So with Ball only working out for the Lakers and a couple of these other guys likely only planning to work out for a couple teams at the top and how many guys will the Celtics workout?...well there may not be a lot of news about those guys even when they do work out since only a few teams will see them.

Wiggins is working with his trainer Drew H. And they are working on his ball handling working on getting lower with the ball and Wiggins is really motivated to improve overall. In thing you can't fault Wiggins on is the guy works hard to get better.

Not much else is worth mentioning.

Rubio coming to the US was dependent on his salary if I remember correctly. He would have made enough as a top 3 pick to warrant coming over here. When he dropped to 5 his projected salary dropped and he had to stay oversees.

The more I think about it, the time to sell high and trade Ricky may be this offseason. Yes, it won't help make the playoffs next season, but I'd bet Ricky leaves in FA when we are actually becoming a threat.

I also assume Isaac is gone at 7 and we are looking at Fox, DSJ, or Monk (I am warming up to the idea of him as a 6th man who fits well subbing in early for LaVine and guarding the lesser of the guards next to Dunn) as the BPA.

So what is Rubio worth as a draft pick? Could we net a 8-14 pick for him? I know many people here do not want more young guys, but let's be real. We are at least 1 more star from even thinking of competing. I'd double up now while we have the opportunity to trade Rubio. DSJ or Fox + Collins, Markannen, OG, etc. would be great. Not to mention we free up 14 more million for this offseason or next.

I think pick 14-30 plus role player is more realistic. We could look at playoff teams with a lot of bigs (Toronto, Boston).
