Zimmer was unhappy with all the mistakes and poor technique by his team. As it's been mentioned Asiata was not his usual self in protection. In addition it looks like the Eagles are no chumps when it comes to putting pressure on the QB. So I'm not just saying oh well it was a bad game against a good Dline we will be fine it may not be cause for all our panic either. We will have to wait and see they have an extra day to work things out with a Monday night game against Cutler and the Bears.

I don't think it will get worse, but this team will not go far if this line as it stands. Eagles front 7 ranked in 21st at the start of the season. Looking at PFF. It looks like there leftside is very strong and right side is just above average. Overall the team is very strong on defense except for corners. The line couldn't hold long enough to expose them. It will be interesting to see us against the bears. They are middle of the road upfront. Urein and Acho are below average. Freeman is a stud at ILB.

Thanks for posting. It's really not many oline drafted in general but to be fair without looking back too far a couple of those years at the beginning of the list I think they had a solid line and had other problems they may have been trying to address. It's also funny how the comments quickly evolve into bashing on Norv (some critism in the past is fair) even though this year i have seen about as many exotic stuff happening since they tried to use Joe Webb in the wildcat a few years ago. It's tough to do bunch of different stuff when AP is playing a majority of the snaps.

3 of our past 4 first and second round picks (last 2 years) are either part timers or not playing at all. They've all been luxury picks while the line has suffered. Counting on Sullivan and Loadholt to come back from their injuries was dumb. Kalil might not have missed games, but he's had surgery or problems basically every summer since his rookie year. Spielman threw a bunch of crap at the wall and it all turned out to be crap. That's on him. I'm not giving him a pass for wasting high picks on luxury players. 1st and 2nd rounders are supposed to be starters, not inactive. He used to get great value out of those picks and the past 2 years Kendricks is the only bright spot.

I don't completely disagree with your take however there is no guarantee that picking an olineman at that spot was gonna save the team either. Which of the offensive lineman picked in the 1st when the Vikings would have been picking or even in the 2nd round would have been obvious upgrades right now? I looked up a couple of guys picked in the first round and they don't seem like there are playing particularly well. Maybe some others have been good or solid but it's not a sure thing either although I suppose this is all stating the obvious.
The other factor is when they picked Waynes did they know Newman was going to be so good and play another 2 seasons (maybe more) of good football? I don't think so. I don't think they knew that Treadwell was going to have the depth to overcome to get on the field that the Vikings seem to have right now. I said the last 2 drafts the Vikings could go BPA and that's largely what they did.
The last few seasons should they have spent more resources on the line? Sure I would have liked to see them do that also maybe even more in 2015 when they picked Waynes. That year they went into the season looking pretty solid on that oline. They had 5 guys (Kalil, Fusco, Sully, Harris, Loadholt) they felt pretty good about and some depth too including Clemmings who was a guy I think everyone was excited about. In a few months much of that has disappeared mostly due to illness and injury. Fusco is the only guy left from that projected line and obviously Berger stepped in for Sully that year played well and is still here. They did sign two guys this offseason to help out that Unit so it's not like they didn't do anything. Picking offensive lineman either in the draft or FA does depend a bit on your scheme too so that is something to consider.
I think we can all agree the Vikings have not been good enough at picking and developing offensive lineman the last few years. 2 guys they have on the roster they traded to get them in Sirles and Nick Easton that were undrafted. Fortunately they didn't give up much to get either but it sorta looks bad when you are plucking other team's guys they were about to cut to your own roster. Maybe Sparano can help turn that around. The Willie Beavers pick doesn't inspire confidence. Lol

Hopefully he is still available this summer. I'd trade our 2018 first for him.
