Jester thinks I've consumed the Rosas KoolAid. But In reality I've consumed the PorkAid. Watching these playoffs should remind all of us that you can't have a ball-dominant, star max player who can't hit perimeter shots or free throws no matter how good he is in other areas. The Ben Simmons regular-season elixir has worn off and I'm sober enough to realize that Simmons is not going to make the Wolves a title contender.

Fun fact Hastings Nebraska NAIA college fences are so far out the light standards are inside the field. They have a plaque with everyone who's hit a home run there. Alex Gordon hit two of them there when he was at Nebraska.

Fun Jester can't sleep fact of the night.

What if Simmons is the 3rd star? Ant and KAT taking up the offense in crunch time.

The simple question I have is. Who is the better player, Simmons or DLO?

If we can straight up swap then I have to do it. The game isn't only about crunch time, every possession matters. If you take him off the court in the last few minutes, who cares? Give him more minutes during the 1st 45. :D

I honestly need someone to make a fact-based argument how DLO even approaches Simmons in terms of positive impact on his team. I think the image of Simmons ignoring the wide-open dunk in Game 7 is firmly implanted in the minds of almost all NBA fans, but the prevailing image for me is of his consistently smothering defense. He's being much-maligned for his playoff performance, but Philly was a remarkable 25.5 points per 100 possessions better with Ben on the court compared to off during these playoffs...that's extraordinary! An all-NBA defender who averages 16/8/8 on 56 eFG% for his career simply cannot be compared to a 1-way player like DLO. DLO for Simmons would never have been a talker if Ben hadn't had his silly "no dunk" moment, because NBA scouts know the two players are in different tiers. We can only hope that the scorn Simmons is getting in Philly right now is giving Rosas a gold-plated gift that could instantly transform this franchise.

Yes. There's so much recency bias with Simmons.

Remember... Philly has made the 2nd round in each of his last three trips to the playoffs... all the way to Game 7 twice. And the Wolves have made the playoffs one time in 17 years.

He can't shoot. Yet he's still a positive offensive player. And a great defensive player. His value has never been this low. There's risk... he hasn't shown the year-to-year improvement that you like to see in young players. In fact, there's a slight regression in areas. And he was brutal in the playoffs. There's a mental thing going on.

Even THAT guy helps a team win more games than D. Russell. Now imagine... for a franchise that has lived via the Promise of Hope for the better part of its existence... what happens if Simmons just needs a change of scenery...

Trading Russell and Beasley is not without risk. But one of those guys has bounced from team to team to team. He's one of the worst, disinterested defenders in the entire league. The other guy pointed a gun at a family a year ago. He's also poor defensively despite running around with energy. He's primarily a one-dimensional shooter.

Towns
Edwards
Simmons

Do it.

The Sixers won 28 games in 2016-2017 the year they drafted Simmons but he didn't play. The next season they won 52 games and have basically been that level of team since. Simmons obviously isn't the sole reason for that winning but he certainly has been a significant contributor to winning a consistent number of games. If he really is a top 5 defensive player in the NBA that's worth a bunch of money by itself.

I do the trade if it's DLO for Simmons straight up (plus some salary filler on our part). But now Beasley becomes SUPER important to this team because he's the one perimeter guy we have that provides spacing. Every other perimeter player on the roster can either be ignored or require only a soft close out. I have high hopes for Nowell, but my confidence got a bit shaken with him last season with some of his inexplicably bad misses. Still....he has the natural stroke to develop into a deadly shooter.
