The guy really seemed like a psychopath when I watched him last season...not surprised at all that his bad behavior continued to escalate. Good for Coach K to do the right thing and suspend this punk...I hope he doesn't see a college court again.
Wow, think of the millions he might have thrown away...

He's back in the starting lineup. Duke needs him.

I hadn't heard that...thx for the update. The last I heard Coach K had just said "suspended indefinitely".
Yeah, Duke wasn't very good with Allen out, and they do need him...I'm not convinced the world needs him though.

Camden wrote:Even with as bad of a record as we have this season, our three 21-year olds haven't been the biggest problem, in my opinion. Do they have problematic areas? Absolutely, some bigger than others, and I'd venture to say that nearly every star player had weaknesses at that age. I think the surrounding pieces need to be a lot better, and we currently have placeholders that would be better used in different roles, or even different teams.
I'd still be more interested in adding a productive veteran at power forward -- Paul Millsap or Serge Ibaka would be a beautiful addition to the roster. We can debate about Gorgui Dieng to the moon and back, but I refuse to waver on my stance that he's a damn good bench big that's starting out of necessity.
Next, I believe we cannot go another off-season without addressing our backup wing spot. Shabazz Muhammad is simply not getting done, to say it nicely. Brandon Rush has not shown his worth to this team either. That means that current starters Zach LaVine and Andrew Wiggins are forced to play more minutes, and consequently must be productive in those minutes or else we're susceptible to losing as we've seen. One more legitimate wing would go a long way for this team. Since I hate to see people mention problems without proposed solutions, here's mine. I'd be very aggressive in my pursuit of Kyle Korver. He can't command an exceptional amount of money on the free market because of his age (35), but he is good enough that he should still look to get paid over the next couple of years, which *could* take him out of contending teams' plan. That'll be on him. I do know, however, that he enjoyed playing for Tom Thibodeau and has since given him a ton of credit for his defensive improvement as a player.
As for our point guards situation, it's in the air. Is Ricky Rubio good enough to lead this group? Is Kris Dunn ready to play a significant role on a team looking to win games? The options outside of what we currently have are thin, but there are a few. Unfortunately, they all come with *some* risk. For now, let's say we stand pat with what we have.
Is Team A better than Team B for the current time being AND the future, hypothetically?
Team A:
PG: K. Dunn / (?)
SG: Z. LaVine / (?)
SF: J. Butler / (?)
PF: K. Towns / N. Bjelica
C: G. Dieng / C. Aldrich
Team B:
PG: R. Rubio / K. Dunn
SG: Z. LaVine / K. Korver
SF: A. Wiggins / K. Korver
PF: S. Ibaka (or P. Millsap) / G. Dieng
C: K. Towns / G. Dieng / C. Aldrich
I love the balance, depth, and potential that Team B has. That would be my direction, though it's not a given that it happens by any means.
On Team A, why can't the wing bench question marks be filled with Korver?
On Team B, my biggest concern is wing defense.
Or how about Team C: Subtract Wiggins and Rubio and add Butler, Ibaka, and Korver?

Korver should be a free agent target regardless of whatever else happens. So, yeah, he could slide in that Team A that I listed. I left it as question marks because I'm not sure if everyone is in favor of paying Korver since he's 35-years old.

Well, in this scenario, you are kind of going all in on making a major leap by trading Wiggins and a lotto pick, so you might as well go get someone like Korver too!

A favorite of a few of us here OG is done for the year with a knee injury. Whether he even comes out now is probably in question.

I figured it was about time to start following Draft express on Twitter. I unfollow them for a few months because they post so much. It's good stuff but I don't need to scroll through it all for a few months of the season when it matters less.

Game report Purdue VS Nebraska.
I said "Hi" you Q's guy Robbie Hummel! JK Q he wasn't there. :)
Good old Spike Albritcht plays some.
Swanigan for Purdue is rated as a 2nd round pick on Draft express so i was watching him somewhat closer because of that but I watched him in last year's matchup and I liked what I saw. Purdue has another guy Haas who is a massive dude over 7' so that's tough on NE who isn't all that big. They double those guys a ton and Swanigan was making them pay by passing the ball out for assists in the first half espcially early. Nebraska's D kept improving as the game went on and their freshman big guy (who hasn't played much it had to again this bigger team) had a solid game overall and helped enough even though he fouled out. Nebraska ended up with a pretty nice win with Jack McVeigh scoring over 20 points off the bench including 4-5 on 3's and a a 3 point trip to the line. It was a fun game and the place was pretty ful which honestly I was surprised about because the Huskers had dropped 5 in a row including a loss to the lowly Rutgers team. It doesn't seem like there is a particularly good team in the big 10 right now.
As far as draft stuff goes not a whole lot to see here just some college basketball being played. Nebraska has some young perimeter players that could be interesting if they develop. Swanigan has the modern big man game you want. I'm not sure what his upside is but he is fairly skilled.
Thursday I will be back at the Vault for Ty Lue's jersey retirement and the game against Michigan State. Hopefully Nebraska can keep things rolling.

Yeah, Swanigan is a man among boys. It's a little surprising to me how far down he is in DX's mock draft considering the numbers he's put up, but I think the concern is how he'd defend in a pace and space NBA where bigs need to be able to guard out on the perimeter. Of course, guys like Enes Kanter and Zach Randolph seem to be doing just fine destroying people off the bench.

Here are the the negatives as I see them and look at his stats and draft profile.
1. Moves well and is like you said "man amongst boys" but he isn't explosive athletically. You pointed out some guys that aren't jumping out of the gym but that tends to knocks guys down when it comes to potential.
2. Isn't a shot blocker and therefore not likely a rim protector. That probably goes with his lack of explosion...plus
3. He has the lengthis a PF 6.5" in shoes 7'3.5" wingspan but only a 8'11" standing reach. So...we are talking about a somewhat limited physical profile right espcially if he is guarding centers or PFs.
Still the guys is killing it in a lot of ways (just looked at his stats this year) scoring, rebounding and doing it crazy efficiently all the way out on the 3 point line where he shots it easy. He was only 5-15 in this game but he still had 14-14 with 6 assists (4 TOS). NE was doubling him and Haas nearly every time. McVeigh was espcially terrific for a stretch with the double causing problems with his length. The stats may not show it but NE was creating some serious havoc on Purdue for stretches although did hit a bunch of 3's. I'll be interested to see how Swanigan finishes up the year and what he plans to do.
I'm also still curious how AJ Hammonds does as he is on The Mavs roster and hasn't played much. It looks from the stats there have been some players ahead of him on the roster that have played well in their minutes. That's a good place for him to develop I give him a 50/50 chance of being a worthwhile rotation big which honestly is being optimistic.
