"But Darko was just so impressive. It was literally the best workout I've ever seen. I've seen hundreds and it was the best. When you have a 7-1 kid, who is 17 years old, doing the things he was doing, it was a "wow" moment, especially for a team that needed a big man. There was just a buzz afterward."
Chad Ford, circa 2003
I think his use of the phrase "in this setting" with the Towns blurb was done intentionally after the Darko debacle feedback...

I posted this before, but Bleacher Report wrote an article predicting who the top 20 players will be in 2020. Wiggins was #2, and Towns was #13. This was just one man's opinion, but having two of the top 13 players in the game is a good foundation for a championship team, especially if they are both 2-way players and in their mid-20s.

In the interest of full disclosure, Okafor is ranked 18th...more evidence that Flip is not likely to screw this up.

Re: The Case for Towns
I see Towns being a 15-18 ppg, 8-12 rpg, 2.5 bpg guy. He will play well on both ends of the floor. I see an all star type, but not a superstar. I think we have our Jordan in Wiggins, so we just need to draft out Pippen, which I think Towns could nicely fill that role. If Okafor and Russell fix their defense I think they will be better players, but those are big ifs. I don't think Towns will come out of the box killing it and I think his early struggles will come on the defensive end as opposed to the offensive end. He is going to be a good player in this league.
I think it's also important to note that we got spoiled with Wiggins rookie year. After the first thirty games or so he wasn't playing much like a rookie. I wouldn't expect Towns to be that good that early. I think it's physically tougher for a 19 year old big to come right in and kill it. I think year 3 is when Towns will really hit his stride.
That's all just my uneducated guess.

I don't think picking Russell or Okafor would be screwing it up. It's like picking between chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla ice cream. It all depends on what your taste is. We are going to get a very good young player, maybe not a guy on Davis' or Wiggins' level, but one in the tier below it.

Anthony Davis?
To be fair, there is no guarantee Wiggins is even remotely close to Anthony Davis. Or, ever will be.
Davis is arguably a top 5 player... and rising.

That's what I meant, TRKO...I don't think I was very clear. Even though I prefer Towns, being ranked the 13th best player in the league vs. the 18th best player in the league is not very significant. And I agree that Russell needs to be considered too.

Watching Karl Towns work out in a setting like this is an absolute joke. Doing some absolutely unreal things. Unbelievable how skilled he is

Ford gushing too. Zgoda retweeted this I am not a huge fan of Ford but yeah.
@chadfordinsider: Workout over. Towns one of the most freakishly talented bigs I've ever seen. Not sure what his weakness is in this setting.
Watching a couple short clips of both WCS and Towns handling the ball just reminds you just how truely talented guys are at that level.
Yeah, I know it's only workouts, but what a nice, smooth stroke. The NBA 3-point line doesn't seem to be too much of a challenge for him.

Re: The Case for Towns
We're starting to hear some things about Towns potential that suggest he could be a homerun. Not just a good player but a great one. I might be getting a little too excited, a little too early, but I don't want to see us hand this guy to the Lakers. That would be too tough to swallow.

It's a surprise to me too.
