How does Spellman have positive value? Also you don't know that a team wasn't going to take Balmero. Balmero was considered the best stash prospect in this draft.
Wolves traded our 11th (who didn't want to play here) and 15th man for a guy who can play 15 minutes and play a role.
All it cost was a 2nd. I'll take it.
I see we agree.
Not to mention if we sat and lost out on Bolmaro, take 2 prospects who we cannot stash, then you're likely talking of losing one of Juancho or JMac, and trying to trade Spellman and Evans anyway.
Bolmaro has upside, plays some defense and can playmaker. Softens the blow of giving away our 1st next year too. I think he may even have 2 or 3 years on his contract overseas though?

You cant guarantee Bolmaro would be there. So if that is your guy, you go get him.
I am not a huge fan of either of our later picks, but I'm not going to sweat over that 2nd round pick if those players are who Rosas was targeting. At least they weren't sold for the great prospect "Cash Considerations", who the billionaire Glen always loves.
#33 was basically part of a 3 team trade with OKC and the Knicks and the Knicks didn't even keep the pick it went to the Clippers.
Bolmaro has value as a guy that can be picked now doesn't take up a roster spot or any cap space. In addition he isn't just stashed over in Europe somewhere he is being developed to some extent by one of the best teams in international basketball. So basically you are picking a talented guy and having someone else develop him without having to pay anything. The Wolves already have enough young talent even I have to admit another draft pick or 2 would be too much and I LOVE drafting lots of guys.
As for trading away 2nd rounders...Naz Reid and McLaughlin are more promising than all but a couple guys this franchise has drafted in the 2nd round for at least 10 years. Maybe they feel like they can do that again.
Davis is a bench player - that's what he's been his entire career. So he clearly wasn't signed as our starting PF. That role seems to belong to the Jauncho. How could it not with all that Juancho brings to the table. :)
Davis has historically been a really good rebounder. He played very little last season and didn't put up good numbers, but I don't know the back story or how he looked on the court. He may or not have much left in his tank, but at 31 he should still be near the top of his game unless he has some underlying physical issues. He's clearly not a stretch big, so I doubt he'll play much in Gersson's vaunted system. But again, we have Jauncho, so we really don't need many minutes from any other bigs.
If you're evaluating the deal itself, it can be viewed as a continuation of the DLO deal. In that sense, the Wolves ended up trading Wiggins plus next year's 1st and 2nd round picks along with another future 2nd rounder for DLO and Davis - Ed, not Anthony.
The best part of the deal, and the only thing that makes it a positive in my view, is that it frees up a roster spot and a little extra cap room to sign JMac. Now they had better sign JMac!
Can someone explain the Spellman obsession to me? The guy only got 18 minutes a game for a Warriors team that was complete trash and had no depth. That was Russell/Draymond and the G Leaguers and Spellman barely played. He's not a rotation player. If he was then last year was the year to prove it and earn PT for a team that is always looking for role players to fit around their stars and they didn't want him. Literally the team that values his skill set the most didn't keep him. If the Warriors are so smart then why are we so dumb for also letting him go? Davis will give us better minutes than Spellman will probably produce in his entire career.

Not to mention he acted entitled when being traded here, a place he could have done anything to get some minutes last season. Good riddance. Have fun in the Knicks organization. Went from GSW, to MN, to NY. Literally passed down to the bottom of the barrel. At least he can have more of his night life there.
Why not sell of Spellman or Evans in the OKC or NYN deal during the draft? I think they flat out are just wasting assets. I doubt either team was going to take Bolmaro and for what he has shown to date as a shooter you just say darn or once they do draft him then you pony up assets to get him. I don't hate Bolmaro or E. Davis as players, to me it just seems like we are wasting assets. Good teams trade 2nd's for future picks when they don't need them. Spellman's shooting and athleticism makes me think he was more of a positive value asset than not. Just because you find guys undrafted doesn't make it ok to just burn 2nd's. This trade won't matter much in the end just don't like it.

Had you ever heard of Bolmaro before draft? Did you know he is a career 86% FT shooter? Did you know he was on the Nike Hoops summit World team that easily beat USA who had a supposed stacked team? Bolmaro took 2 shots in that game and made them both and they were 3 pointers. =) Mike Schmitz said Bolmaro is a guy he thinks people will look back and say how did he go that low.

Also Russell and Davis were over +8 per 100 possessions in over 1k possessions when they played together with the Nets.
Davis won't kill you and can help in areas where you are weak. Not a huge move but a move on the margins that can help you win games
Agreed, he gives us a competent vet in the frontcourt that can fill in at Center as needed. I'm hoping Reid progresses and takes most of those minutes behind KAT, just because he has skills that Ed Davis has never shown (shooting and passing), but he needs to come to camp in shape and defend well.
I do think he was also brought in for the "mentoring" angle, something we used to joke about in the past due to how ineffectual its been for this franchise. No downside to it, but "great lockerroom presence" never seems to translate to better shooting and better defense.

The draft-and-stash has merit for the Wolves if we were looking at adding 3 or 4 rookies.
OR...
What about using the draft capital to move up and draft two rookies with the potential to help now? This team sucks balls. Instead of hoping we'll get better eventually... and one of the stash guys figures it out against the odds... isn't there merit in incremental improvement?
I know Rosas has come out and stated his philosophy about incremental improvement being the wrong angle... personally... FOR THIS FRANCHISE AT THIS TIME... I think he's wrong.

Maybe. But let's be careful of small sample sizes. After all... Bolmaro is a career 27.7% three point shooter.
