Lets get this firing over with so we can get the nice guy/players coach. Then when he fails we'll go back to the mean/tough coach etc etc...

I don't care whether the new head coach is tough or nice. I just want someone who understands the modern NBA game and coaches accordingly - someone who values the 3-point shot and runs an offense with lots of ball movement and that's designed to take full advantage of KAT's full unique skill set.

He also makes a good point about wiggs. Players run, but he prefers the term race to separate the 2. But wiggins does neither, he jogs. Thorpe is miffed because he believes in a race, wiggs is the fastest player in the league, but wiggs just doesnt value it.

I think he is on point with regards to wiggs and thibs.
Just listened to this today. Thorpe sure seems to believe a different coach could get a lot more out of Wiggins. I thought his points were pretty interesting. What seems clear is that Thibs priority to this point hasn't been to design sets or even offensive strategies around KAT and Wiggins. Thanks for sharing.
Some of the those comments regarding joerger sticks out. He wasnt known as a fast, run and gun coach while in memphis. But he looked and saw that he had WCS and fox, so decided to build around their strengths and the strengths of the team. Yet, thibs sees our team and thinks running a slow pg orientated offense is the best course of action for the wolves. Looks at Wiggs, Okogie, Kat etc..., lets play half court pick and probe with teague and Rose. Sees Cov, kat, saric, Wiggs, cov, tolliver etc...lets go after it and put pressure on the rim.

Yeah he's basically saying utilizing a strategy to fit your talent should be a no brainer. This was his rationale to say Joeger was just average. With that interpretation in mind the implication seems to be that Thibs is now below average in Thorpes opinion.

I was looking at the picks various teams have available in trades and it reminded me of Thibs being a "win now!!!!!!!" Guy. In his 3 seasons with the Wolves he has traded 1 draft pick #7 in the Butler deal and yet received #18 back. After this season where the final 2nd rounder is sent away for the Tyus Jones trade (we have Miami's 2nd) this team has a clean slate of no draft obligations plus that 2022 Philly or Denver 2nd round pick (but...Thibs NEVER thinks longer than a few weeks away...). You would think based on the Thibs narrative "win now!!!" (I'm actually speaking more to things/people I hear outside of this board) we would have traded away multiple future picks but nope. Meanwhile Thibs traded Rubio for a 1st that became Okogie AND sold no picks for cash. :) I'm less of a Thibs supporter as someone that says for the next few months of the season (GTSBOTD) Give Thibs some benefit of the doubt.

I've always appreciated and praised Thibodeau's conservative management of draft picks -- i.e., valuing them and not recklessly trading them for players. There's still an argument that Thibs should have been more patient with our young core, following the Sixers model and keeping LaVine, Dunn and the 7th pick rather than trading for Butler. But that argument doesn't suggest that Thibs has unduly risked the Wolves future to win right away. Instead, that trade was a reasonably calculated deal to take a leap forward without unduly mortgaging the future.
For me the problem with Thibodeau as PBO has never been that he's too focused on "winning now." Instead, the problem has been his judgment. I was OK with swapping our #7 pick for the Bulls #16 pick as part of getting Butler. My problem at the time was with Thibs' decision to take Patton instead of John Collins or Anunoby. So far history has proven me right. I thought Thibodeau made a mistake the year before taking Dunn instead of Hield or Murray. Looks like I was right about that as well. I also think he made a mistake with Gorgui's contract and another mistake giving Wiggins the max deal. I though it was a mistake to sign Teague to such a big contract. As a poor defender and relatively poor playmaker, I thought he was a bad fit for a defensively challenged team that had a number of scorers (Wiggins, KAT & Butler) who needed more of a playmaking guard. There isn't another team in the League that would take Teague at $19 million per year. I thought Thibodeau botched the Butler situation in the summer by allowing it to fester and then explode. But I credit him for salvaging the situation by getting RoCo and Saric, although I still think he could have held out for the Bulls 2nd round pick as well.
Overall, Thibodeau hasn't been a bad PBO. The Rubio deal was a good one. I credit Thibodeau for holding onto the #20 pick we got in return and I credit him further for using it to draft Okogie. I thought the Bates-Dipo pick in the 2nd round was good as well. Getting RoCo and Saric for Butler was a decent return for Butler. Signing Derrick Rose was a nice move as well. In total, I'd give Thibodeau a C+ as PBO. If we want the Wolves to be a championship contender, we'll need at least a B+ front office.
I think Thibodeau has been a better PBO than head coach. But in my view, that's not saying much.

I agree Lip.
Thibs PBO grade- C-
Thibs coach grade- D-
Trying to be realistic. It could be worse, but not much.

I give Thibs a B+ as a PBO.
He made 3 bad decisions in his time.
Drafting Dunn
Drafting Patton
Gorgui contact.
He made some good moves also.
Butler trade the 1st time.
Teague and Taj are 2 of the best signings in wolves history
Butler trade the 2nd time.
Rubio trade
Drafting Okogie
Rose on the min
Towns signing the Max
Moves that I understand but will end up bad
Wiggins max.
It's so hard do be a contender. So much luck involved. Are we a contender if we had Murray and collins. I don't think so. So much of a butterfly effect.
There is one realistic draft that could of made us a contender and that was one flip when he picked bazz over greak freak. Gorgui over gobert and selling a pick that became Roberson.
I'm not even playing flip but that is the luck involved and that missed opportunity was our chance

Did you follow the Wolves during the David Kahn era?

Sure, Khans is an F.
So a C- is quite fair. You can like the players we have, but until they translate into a winner I am not going B. To get an A you better be a title contender. That should be the goal.
