I agree. I think the point is we don't shop him. If people want him they can come to us and we can name the price. IF the Bulls call the price is Portis to me. they would be a better team with a backup SG then having a 4th PF.

But he's still a valuable bench scorer on an affordable $7.1 million contract, and teams that need a little extra juice should take a hard look at him. Martin has a $7.4 million player option for next season, but that shouldn't be a dealbreaker for anyone other than a Washington/Miami/Houston type carving out a specific amount of cap space for use on a specific target.

I thought Martin was signed for next year without an option.

Me too but a lot of people have talked about it and all the salary cap places have him at an option. I am pretty sure someone asked Flip about it this offseason (radio spot) and said Martin did have an option and then talked about Martin fitting long term as a bench guy extending his career etc.

I wonder how people would feel if Rubio's injury issues carry over into the regular season. Would you trade Martin for a PG?

Martin will keep his mouth shut as long as the team is winning. Just like he did in OKC. You'd look like a real ass if your bitching while the team is having success.

But since I see this team losing 50 games he's going to get disgruntled feeling like he could be more of a difference maker. Even if previous years tell us otherwise.

I don't want to speak for Lloyd, but I think he agrees that $7 million for Martin is very reasonable, given the current NBA context. I think his point is that the entire situation is out of control...the fact that an oft-injured, one-way player is paid $ 7 million a year, and that contract is considered reasonable or even a bargain, is certainly face palmable. It's a crazy world in the NBA these days, and Flip has played it quite wisely.

There's no question that KMart's contract is very reasonable in the current environment. He's still one of the best 3-point shooters in the league, and even with the new fouling rules, still knows how to get to the line. And as it's been pointed out before, his most efficient shooting year of his career was the one year he didn't start. I'm in favor of making him the 6th man and giving him a lot of minutes on the nights he is hot. As the trade deadline approaches, he may be a very valuable commodity for us as teams look for specialty scorers for their playoff drive. If Milt/Sam think they can cobble together enough wings from Wig/Zach/Bazz/NB and maybe Brown and some team that covets Kevin makes us an attractive offer, it could be a very good thing. Meanwhile, I'm going to enjoy performances like the one he had last Wednesday...9 points on 50% shooting and 3 assists in just 11 minutes.

name another 20 point scorer not on a rookie deal that makes 7 mil or less

Yes that was my point LST, thank you for adding some context there. 7 million for a sixth man is a bargain these days, sad but true.
