If I would rank our need by position it would be.

This team really could use a solid combo guard. I would offer the pick to Alec Burks of the Jazz or Waiters of the Cavs.

I actually like Burks and Waiters, but no way am I giving up the pick for them. I like too many of the guys that will likely be available around 13 to do that. Stauskas/Harris have a much higher ceiling than Burks or Waiters in my mind. That's without even bringing up contracts (Burks/Waiters already multiple years in on rookie deal).

I would rather land a quality player then take a shot for someone better at this time. I could see asking for an early second or late first back.

I don't agree with that. I'd take a shot on a guy that could have a very high upside and raise the whole team's potential. I don't see Waiters/Burks as All-Star potential players. They're quality starters or very good bench players, but a lottery pick in this draft could be a big boost to this team's future outlook.

I think we've already gone for the 'quality player approach' the last several years. Trading for Budinger being exhibit A. We should look to increase the potential of this team as much as possible instead of look to get slightly better for the short term.

Yeah I guess McDermott doesn't fit in with our team due to his tweener status, he just looks like a smooth scorer.

He's the real deal, Lloyd. Jeez, he's about to pass legendary Oscar Robertson on the all-time scoring list. I think he may have to play SF in the NBA though, and may not be athletic enough to guard SFs. He's such an incredible scorer, though, that I gotta believe somebody grabs him somewhere in the top 10.

We've talked about Waiters on this board, and I'd still be in favor of giving Martin up for him. I guess I'll leave it at that. Martin for Waiters and I'm with ya. 2014 lottery pick for Waiters and I can't do it.

Bleed and Cam -- Great discussion. I'm not sure where I come down in your debate. I agree with Cam philosophically in preferring upside. But I agree with Bleed that Waiters (not Burks) has allstar potential. So I might lean towards dealing our pick for Waiters, but that depends on who is actually available when we're in the clock. I do like Cam's idea of dealing Martin for Waiters.

If we had pick #12-13 and the cavs offered us waiters for the pick then we should do it. Waiters is good and he has produced in this league. He gives us what we need, a true sg who can score, create his own shot and has good ball handling skills. I highly doubt the cavs would do that trade or trade dion for matin but if it somehow was offered, then we should grab it.

I hope Selden comes out from KU and we take him. He's got the legit 2 guard size and athleticism. He was known as a guy that liked to get to the rim in high school. He looks like he has some decent handles. Just by going to KU, you know he is better off than most in understanding how to play defense. It will take some time to finish developing his shot, but that is kind of what we need. A guy that can be a solid two way player in 2-3 years that can then relegate Martin to the 6th man role as he ages. I think he is a pretty well rounded player at this point and he has become a piece on KU that when he is on they win and when he isn't they lose. On a team with potentially 2 of the top 3 picks, that is saying something. I don't think Harris is really big enough to get to the rim in the NBA and finish well, which limits his potential in my mind. He is the better shooter of the two, but I think Selden will be the better driver and finisher in the pro's while having a good enough shot to make the defense respect him. Just from pure two way potential, I think Selden is the better pick for us. I also like Stauskas as a shooter, but I don't think he'll have the strength to really do anything defensively at the next level. I don't see much two way potential in him overall. He will have a role in the NBA, but I don't think it is all-star caliber. I think Harris and Selden have that all-star potential, which makes me rather take the guy who is a little bit better built for the position.
