This is the sort of undrafted free agent signing we should expect from TC at some point. I like most of what TC has done since the Gobert trade and in my view he hasn't made any blunders since then. But that trade for Rudy has TC so deep in my doghouse that he remains on double-secret probation until he pulls off an Austin Reaves caliber signing.
At this moment, our reason for optimism as Wolves fans relates entirely to moves made by Rosas and Flip Saunders. Rosas brought us Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid. Flip drafted Towns. Those are the only four players on our roster that teams around the NBA would give up anything significant to get.
People hate the Lakers but that franchise has found some good players well outside of the lottery. Alex Caruso is a really good complimentary player that I bet some teams are kicking themselves for not signing a couple off seasons ago. Reaves might be one of the undrafted finds of his era although I expect even more undrafted guys to have lots of success over he next few years.
Meanwhile Connelly last trade deadline turned D’Angelo Russell into Mike Connelly NAW who he resigned for a reasonable amount and the 2nd round draft pick capitol to move up and draft Miller and they still have a 2nd left. He also didn’t pull the trigger on trading Naz and was able to resign him. The Wolves needed to add to their roster and the worry was if they resigned Naz they wouldn’t be able to. Connelly added a young promising player in the draft in Miller kept, NAW in FA and then let Prince go and signed 2 useful players in Brown and Shake with that money. This is why ownership went out and got this guy. He knows what he is doing.
Monster - I agree with everything you wrote in your post. But I still have TC on double-secret probation.

Lol it’s fun this came up because one of my newer co-workers is having a countdown till she is off 6 month probation from starting the new job. She has worked in the field for longer than some of my coworkers have been alive. In our work team chat in response to the daily countdown someone posted the GIF of the double secret probation. That comes up at least once a day now and it’s hilarious. Let’s just say Tim Connelly is in good company.
Also I think Animal House is one of those classic movies I’ve probably seen like a total of 77% of it and like 32% of it 7 times. Pretty sure I’ve never seen the whole thing and if I did it was over 30 years ago. Maybe I’ll put it on the list of movies to watch.

Monster - You definitely need to sit down and watch it start to finish in one sitting. I watched the whole thing again about a month ago and still loved it.
Dru: “Miami’s frustrated w/ how things are moving slowly. Portland’s telling them bring us your best offer. MIA would like to know what Portland wants & MIA isn’t getting that answer. Heat feel like things could be moving quicker if Portland said exactly what they want” @ChrisBHaynes
If I were Portland’s PBO, I’d give a big middle finger to Pat Riley and the Miami front office. If the Heat want Lillard, and they obviously do, then they should put their best offer on the table as the Blazers told them. Lillard wants Miami and Miami wants Lillard. Portland never wanted to trade Lillard and now they want to make sure they get the best deal possible if they trade him. They are smart enough to know they shouldn’t start telegraphing what they’re willing to accept. Let Miami make their best offer. If it’s good enough, then they’ll get Lillard. If it’s not good enough, then Portland will say no and may or may not counter. Meanwhile, perhaps at some point Lillard will realize that where he ends up isn’t his choice. Once he comes to terms with that reality, the door will open to other potential suitors and the offers will be better.
So my hat’s off to the Blazers front office while my middle finger is prominently displayed towards the southeast corner of the United States.

It seems like if any of the reporting I have read is true we know what Portland doesn’t want and Tyler Herro is the best trade chip Miami has of things they likely want to give up. Herro is a nice player and I like him but he is also getting paid a lot of money. Let’s be honest if Dame wasn’t wanting to go to Miami it seems likely other teams would outbid them unless the Blazers valued Herro which they don’t…or maybe they do but they want to get as many picks and young players/assets as possible…which makes sense to me. The idea that Miami doesn’t really know what Portland wants…well probably because Miami simply doesn’t have it.
It’s also worth noting that Miami did lose both Straus and Vincent in FA. Sure they are good at finding guys off the scrap heap and undrafted guys etc plus they have Herro healthy and signed Josh Richardson. I’d guess they wonder if they need to do more than that though especially with Kyle Lowry being another year older. If Dame Really wants to go to Miami it could get ugly.

That’s right, Monster. Unless the Heat offer Bam as part of an outgoing package, they’re not going to get Dame and they no it. Tyler Herro as the centerpiece of a package for Lillard is laughable. And I have a hard time envisioning a third team coming along to create a package that makes sense for Portland. Miami has nothing to offer a third team other than Tyler Herro.
Pat Riley is counting on pressure from Lillard’s agent to force an incredibly lopsided deal for Lillard. It’s not going to happen. The League should investigate the obvious collusion between Pat Riley and Dame’s agent. Meanwhile, I expect the Blazers to remain resolute. If Lillard isn’t traded by the start of the season, he’ll show up and play for Portland. He’s not Ben Simmons. And if the Blazers do well early on, Lillard’s trade demand might fade into the scrap heap of history. I remember Flip saying to me that he lobbied internally to keep Marbury in spite of his trade demand. The Wolves were leading the Western Conference at the time Marbury was traded. Flip’s point was that winning tends to make players forget about all the bad things on their minds. We’ll never know what might have happened if McHale had gone with Flip’s recommendation. But I’m certain the Blazers won’t trade Lillard unless and until they receive a fair return for a win-now star like Dame.

I haven’t watched Herro enough to say for sure how good he is or isn’t but I’m not sure it’s that ridiculous that he is a centerpiece of a Dame trade. He is a 23 year old that has put up 23ppg at decent efficiency and can make some plays for others. There might still be upside. Let’s say there is legit upside there. The problem is the Blazers have the guard spot set with ascot Simons and sharpe. They don’t have any realistic use for another high isuage guard even if they are really good. Now if Herro was making less money then maybe they make the trade and make it work but what if Herro isn’t a starter? Then that contract becomes a problem. How many teams need a scoring guard? This is why trades are hard. Lol
On the other hand…that strategy about winning etc was what Thibs was counting on with Jimmy Butler…it didn’t work. For one thing players have waaaaaaaaay more power than the days of Marbury.
Without a 3rd team swooping in to save Miami; I have no reason to believe a deal will get done. Miami has Herro, Portland doesn't want or need Herro, and Miami is handcuffed on picks to send.
Personally, I would love to see Dame, Butler, and Bam fighting the East. Those three, if all healthy, are perfect together.
If anything happens, it should be a 4 team trade between Tor/Atl/Por/Miami. Where Atl gets Siakim, Toronto gets Herro +, Miami gets Dame, and Portland gets all the pieces.
The only 3 team I see viable is with Charlotte. Herro would fit well at the 2 between Lamelo and Miller. Unsure what Charlotte would be willing to give up there though.
A few days ago I was looking at the draft day move that landed the Wolves Rubio, Bolmaro and McDaniels and noticed that the Wolves gave up the Pistons 2023 2nd round pick. Then I looked up who had that pick and wondered how it ended up that the Pistons had it back before moving it to move up to get Sasser in this draft. The link below explains that pick had quite a journey. That ended up being a pretty nice pick fortunately Connelly was able to get #33 this year to take Miller. Does anyone remember the last time the Wolves had the 31st pick that they had acquired in a trade?
