SL Game 2- Wolves vs. Pacers GDT
Re: SL Game 2- Wolves vs. Pacers GDT
0 and 00 going to be important for the 2nd unit. Clarke was called a menace during the broadcast. The Minnesota Menace. Shannon can get to the line at will. Even Hifi is intriguing. For end of bench players, there is some promise here.
Re: SL Game 2- Wolves vs. Pacers GDT
No significant disagreement with your grades, kek. I’d probably bump Edwards up to a C+. He did a lot of little things that made a difference today. And I’d bump Dilly up to a B-. He was better in the first half than the second and that last impression somewhat clouds his overall performance. His shot was obviously better and his passing was terrific. I’d bump Hifi up to a straight B. Once again, he was a spark for the Wolves when they were struggling.kekgeek wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2024 7:58 pm Just finished the game. Fun team. Some good and bad but overall great team effort.
My grades:
Nix: A
Dilly: C+
Shannon: A-
Minnot: B
Miller: D
Clark: A+
Hifi: B-
Edwards: C
Fun game overall. My biggest concern overall is I don’t think Dilly has made a layup in traffic yet. I think Minott on ball defense is the best I’ve seen it so far (still got a ways to go), Nix might fight for minutes and be in that Jmac role. Shannon looks like a pro. Hifi shot selection is iffy but he is super intriguing and he fights on both ends. You couldn’t ask more from Clark today, miller has struggled so far in SL, he had fouls today, I did think he had a couple of good body control finishes what keeps me inquired, he needs to get better at defensive rebounding also (he’s very good on the offensive glass)
Re: SL Game 2- Wolves vs. Pacers GDT
All completely fair, I considered bumping all those grades up when I was doing it. Overall I’m really happy though 2 games how the young guys have lookedLipoli390 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2024 9:07 pmNo significant disagreement with your grades, kek. Huh? The two "youngest guys" are RD and Miller and you have given your worst grades to those two. So you really like the older SL guys like TSJ.kekgeek wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2024 9:11 pmAll completely fair, I considered bumping all those grades up when I was doing it. Re: SL Game 2- Wolves vs. Pacers GDT
Yes I have liked how our young guys have played. 7 of the 9 youngest wolves contracted players are on this summer league. 8 of 10 if you count Hifi. Re: SL Game 2- Wolves vs. Pacers GDT
Yes, there is some promise here. We only need a couple of these guys to work out well for us, so if we come away from summer league with three or four to be excited about, that's great news.
Re: SL Game 2- Wolves vs. Pacers GDT
I don’t believe kek is grading on some sort of age-sensitive sliding scale. I know I’m not. So one would expect the older players to get higher grades than the younger ones based on them having more experience and more physical development. I’d give Dilly a B- or maybe a B for today, but I can’t go higher given his poor (albeit better) shooting. When I factor in his age and look at his excellent feel for the game as well as his shooting efficiency in college as a freshman, I remain excited about him long term as very good starting PG - maybe more than just very good. I’m really pleased to see the 21 year old Minott consistently stay in front of his man in both games and grab 12 rebounds today. I know you love Miller, but he looked terrible today. He just doesn’t seem to have much of a feel for the game and I don’t see him showing anything close to the level of intensity I’ve seen in all the other Wolves summer league players. Because of his youth and talent I’m still not giving up on him long term, but I just can’t see a great better than D for his play in today’s game.KG4Ever wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2024 9:24 pmHuh? Re: SL Game 2- Wolves vs. Pacers GDT
And why is it that whenever there is some "and one" situation for the other team, somehow Miller is involved, meaning he was directly the guy that fouled the opponent or he was part of the defensive breakdown that led to it to begin with?Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 2:00 amI don’t believe kek is grading on some sort of age-sensitive sliding scale. I know I've been harsh on him ever since I first started watching him in the G-League, so may be I don't notice the good things he does enough, but he just seems like one of these guys who can do a lot of damage while still also filling up the box score.
May be he's kind of the big version of Zach LaVine? Tantalizing talent, NBA athleticism, some nice skills, but just sort of clueless at times and often involved in defensive breakdowns and broken plays.
Re: SL Game 2- Wolves vs. Pacers GDT
Miller looks like this stage is to big for him. He easily gets outplayed by the competition and his shot looks more like a heave and a prayer. Minott could do well as a rebounder and screen and roller, but still needs to show more on defense. I hope Finch has a plan to play some of these guys with the top 8. 4 starters and Minott would look better than 4 subs and Minott.
Re: SL Game 2- Wolves vs. Pacers GDT
Q - Your observations about Miller become even more apparent when you see hime live. He often seems clueless. One way to put it is that he doesn’t think the game as fast as the other guys and it puts him posited the flow of the game. Watching his demeanor on the court and during time-out huddles he stand apart from his teammates with none of the intensity and focus you see from the other guys. Sort of a fish out of water.Q-is-here wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 8:08 amAnd why is it that whenever there is some "and one" situation for the other team, somehow Miller is involved, meaning he was directly the guy that fouled the opponent or he was part of the defensive breakdown that led to it to begin with?Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 2:00 amI don’t believe kek is grading on some sort of age-sensitive sliding scale. The Zach LaVine comp is a pretty good one.
