Andrew looks to have added strength and muscle this offseason. He has been working out since may. His priority was his body and shooting. He knows this is a big season for him as he needs to prove he is worth his contract. As polarizing as he has been, Wiggins remains the key to how successful the wolves will be. Whether it is with butler long term or not, Wiggins development is the key.

I don't think physical strength was a significant problem for Wiggins last season. His main problems were 3-point shooting, free throw shooting, bad hands and poor ballhandling. He should have spent the summer working on his ball-handling as well as his shooting and shot selection. But as a big part of how much Wiggins improves offensively, Thibodeau will have to make better use of him. That means more post-ups, more cutting without the ball in the half-court and more fast-break basketball with Wiggins out front on the receiving end. It means a lot less Wiggins in the pick-and-roll.

Lip, I did mention he was working on his shooting as well. Also, dont under estimate physical strength. That part helps in defense and rebounding. Part of what makes butler, kawhi and metta world peace great defenders is because of their strength. You can drive pass them but you cant push them off or body them up easily because of their strength. It helps with stamina as well.

I would also like to see more post ups for wiggins. I agree that he should eliminate the iso pick and roll. Used him more like flip did in his rookie year by giving him the ball in the elbows. Off the ball, have him shoot 3's or cut to the basket. Generally, have the team run more as it benefits wig and the whole team as we are constructed.

What does get lost about Wiggins is his dramatic improvement as a post defender last season which part of it was likely being physically stronger. I thought he didn't do as well with very quick guards keeping in front of him but he absolutely shut down some guys guarding them in the post. This trainer is pretty legit I know he has worked with a wide variety of athletes. Thanks for posting this. I'm interested to see what Wiggins looks like in uniform. I don't know if he looks bigger but he might be even more defined. David Thorpe a couple years ago said part of Kevin Martin's problem defensively was that he never had the physicality to exert his will on guys defensively. That's a bit of a cop out but there certainly is some merit there. Last year Wiggins looked like he could force the issue physically on. That end. If his body gets stronger I do think that will matter. He is still 23 there is time for his body to develop yet.

Wiggins getting stronger is a big deal. It's gonna help unlock his defensive potential because he won't get pushed around. It's gonna help him get to the basket better and not get pushed back or steered off on his drives. He's already a good finisher, but part of his struggles have always been getting to the bucket without needing a good move like the spin move to get there. If he can just get there through his man that will make a big difference. It's also gonna help with rebounding and being able to hold your position. It may not have been a problem last year, but it makes a lot of things even easier to do so it is a big deal.

I like that it looks like strength and not bulk. His speed has been such an asset. A strong core is going to help in the ways you stated. No way his hard work this summer can be skewed as bad news. The reality remains that the shots have to fall.

Exactly. The shots need to fall and you can bet that he has been working on that as well. I dont think his speed will be affected with the muscle gain. It can even help and make him be able to better use his athleticism.

Wiggins is the 3rd wheel on this team. Butler and towns are the top 2 option as they should. Wiggins effectiveness and improvement as the 3rd guy is the key for the team. Defense, shooting and scoring efficiently are areas he should definitely improved on. Improve his 3pt accuracy to league average of 37-38% at a good volume. Get his ft% back to 76% or higher with 5 or more attempts Limit his long twos. move and cut more to the rim. Run plays with him on the post instead of iso pick and roll. Have the team run more as we have athletes.

Good stuff here. Personally what so am looking for as much as anything is seeing Wiggins on the defensive end. I think that's the place he could truest break out while on offense he will be mostly the same guy even if he makes some typically small improvements there. I just want him jacking up 3's if he is open and they make sense even if he is only hitting like 33% from there. As for the team running there has been a tiny bit of buzz about that this offseason from reporters and Nunnally did mention somewhere that the team was looking to run more and he felt that fit his game. One guy I think COULD actually help pick up the pace is Derrick Rose. He can basically be a one man fast break except he does actually know how to pass.

Wolfson reported on his last podcast that while signing Noah is obviously out there as an option he said player agents have told him that the Wolves are still showing interest in signing another wing.
