Re: Wolves 2017 Draft Thread
So, the Wolves worked out Texas center Jarrett Allen yesterday. Since Allen is projected to be a late lottery pick at best, this indicates that Thibs is at least open to the possibility of trading down. I don't think he would be seriously considered at 7.

Sad news for NBA draft fans. Jonathan Jeanne has been diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome. The same condition ended Ike Austin's chances to play in the NBA. I actually had him as a late first round sleeper. Everybody knew he could block shots with his incredible length, but perhaps not everyone knew how good of a three point shooter he was. Anyhow I'm saddened to learn I'll never get to watch him develop in the NBA.

That is sad. He was plenty intriguing. There may be good news though. Austin was cleared to be able to play again and played in Europe this year.

Happy to hear the knees about Austin. Hopefully that bodes well for Jonathan Jeanne.
Re: Wolves 2017 Draft Thread
I've listened to the Dunc'd on podcast draft breakdowns and they have recently down Ball and Fox.
Ball they consider the most unique player in the draft. The say is instincts and how to play the game is off the charts. He just does things that are amazing for a guy his age even making some vet smart help defensive plays. They both worry about his ability as a top scorer because he doesn't have a lot of juice offf the dribble and that jumper could obviously problematic. They thought the comparison to Jason Kidd was worth considering as a guy that can help your team do a lot even if he isn't a top scoring option. They didn't like the chances of Ball becoming a star because worries about his scoring. They liked him and considered him the 2nd best prospect after Fultz but they also felt at this point there wasn't another player that really made that decision hard.
Fox they talked about how confident they were about his shop would get better. they were someone split. Neither were sure about him reaching some sort of stardom and ended up with saying he could become a Jrue Holiday level of player which would be good but not amazing although a healthy Jrue would be a nice player for a lot of teams. They said he is a good kid plays hard and is unselfish. They said as a PG he is more of a guy that makes the right pass than creates and passes guys open. Just off the tape 1 of them said he still Thibs Dennis Smith is more talented especially has a chance to be a star player but obviously as prospects the other stuff is there so teams will be able to hash that out with their intel.
The most recent podcast they also went over the Hornets situation and how they are probably pretty much capped as a 5 seed in the east at best and they weren't sure what they should or would do going forward. They suggested at some point (maybe as soon as the trade deadline) they may need to look at trading some players like Kemba away and rebuilding. They didn't seem like anything significant was going to happen there though.

I'd love to take Batum off their hands. Unfortunately I don't think I love it enough to trade 7 for him and don't know what else we have that could get that done.

Batum would be a better fit. I was thinking of both teams were in the position to make such a deal (which imo neither are or would do it) putting together a package for Kemba would be somewhat interesting.
Re: Wolves 2017 Draft Thread
I'm not surprised to here the podcast report on Ball. I've posted before my view that Ball is the best player in the draft and the most likely ROY.
I think Charlotte is a potential trade target for us if we're willing to swap our #7 pick for Charlotte's #13 pick. The question then is what Charlotte player would we want in return and who would they be willing to give. I have no interest in Batum. He has 4 years left on a $20+ million per year contract. He shot 33% from behind the arc and only around 40% from the field overall last season. He'll turn 29 next December, so there's no more upside there. If anyone is still interested in trading for Batum, I'll remind everyone that David Kahn tried to get him here. That along should be enough to say no to Batum. :)
Honestly, I'd be interested in swapping picks with Charlotte in return for MKG and Charlott'e 2nd round pick. MKG would fill our need for better defense at the wing position. He brings great hustle and toughness. He's a good rebounder, pulling down 7 boards in 30 minutes per game last season. He's definitely a better rebounder and shot-blocker than Batum. And MKG is still only 23 years old, so there might still be more upside there and he can be part of a longer term addition to the team. His $13 million per year deal is fairly reasonable as well. Whether the Hornets would be interested in this deal depends on whether there's someone they really like at #7 who's unlikely to fall to #13.

Batum's averaged 15/6/6 for the past two years. He's a serviceable 3pt shooter which is light years ahead of MKG. Their defensive wins shares are virtually the same (2.8 to Batum to 3.1 to MKG). MKG gets a whopping 1 more board per game. The only thing MKG has going for him over Batum is youth, but Batum is better than MKG at everything offensively and is very close to MKG defensively. 29 is not old. He still has at least 3 prime years left in him which is most of the rest of his deal. He can play either wing spot next to Zach and Wiggins which MKG cannot. MKG doesn't fit in this type of league and the last thing we need to add is a total non-shooter. If we had Batum instead of Roy or Martin or Brewer we probably make the playoffs with Love because of Batum's versatility on the wing that we always lacked. That would have been one of the few smart signings by Kahn if he could have pulled it off. MKG is garbage. Batum is an actual NBA player who is highly productive. Charlotte made the playoffs last year with MKG missing basically the whole year and they missed the playoffs this year with him playing the whole year. What's that say about his impact?

The realitive youth of MKG is probably why they wouldn't want to deal him whether that's right or wrong. If they were looking to deal players Batum would probably be a guy they would be more interested in moving. He would be overpaid but he is also a guy that can do a lot of things kinda well and both good and bad is a complimentary player. BTW Charlotte picks #11.
