Iowa won last night to take their record to 8-5. Mudiay powered them to a win with 20/8/8 and a +21 on the night. He's been real solid down there and worth keeping an eye on.

Dozier and Minott also had solid, but not spectacular, games. Dozier is another guy that just continues to impress with a very good all-around game. And probably the biggest thing with him is he's making 44% of his 3's on 50 attempts so far. It could be illusory, but the sample size keeps growing.

His Per 36 numbers are really good: 20 pts/10.5 Reb/4 Assts/2.1 Stl/1 blk and a +16.

Dozier is basically the wing version of Kyle Anderson in that he can guard multiple positions on defense and play multiple positions on offense, including handling the ball a bit. If his play keeps up, I'd love to see if there is a way for the Wolves to sign him.

Do you see Dozier as a possible replacement for Taurean Price with Taurean possibly being dealt at the trade deadline? I really like Prince, so I'm not particularly interested in seeing him get traded and we'd have to take salary back so I don't think it's likely.

I'll jump in here. The huge issue comparing Prince and Dozier is 3 point shooting. Price is at worst a decent 3 point shooter but most likely he will be good at a decent volume. Dozier at best might be good at a lower volume than Prince. I think overall their value as guys that can do a lot is stuff is comparable and so think Dozier might be a better defender but that shooting aspect is a pretty big deal especially since the Wolves are struggling in that area already. I'm not sure what Prince is gonna return in a trade that's gonna help more than him being on the roster.

Lip, I think it would be hard to replace Prince since he is the one guy that has been consistently making his 3s since the middle of last season. While I think Dozier is the better defender and play maker, we need Prince's skill-set more right now. The guy whose minutes I could see Dozier taking is Rivers. He might be better than Rivers in literally every facet of the game.

This is a good post I was gonna say something similar about Rivers. I think Prince's playmaking is often underrated. I think Rivers drive game is better than Dozier and quite frankly he might be a better 3 point shooter but the bar isn't high. Rivers problem on defense as an individual defender is that anytime he doesn't have a physical advantage on a guy he can struggle. Sometimes his strength and decent size help him out. If a guy is his size and bigger with some quicks then it doesn't go well. I think Rivers does some really good things as a team defender that he doesn't often get credit for...at least in the last few games I have been watching. I don't know what he did the other 15 games etc. I think Dozier plays bigger. I would compare him more to Okogie with some actual somewhat useful offensive skill. The Wolves don't really have that type of perimeter guy on the roster that's experienced.

Good feedback. I agree with both of you. Barring a long-term injury, I think the only path for Dozier to end up with the Minnesota team this season is if Knight or Forbes is released. Same for Mudiay. The guys we can expect to see up from Iowa from time to time this season will continue to be Moore, Minott, Garza and now Ryan. They're all signed and therefore eligible to play for the Minnesota team. They'll likely fill in based on illnesses and short-term injuries as well as some occasional garbage minutes. As JMac continues to struggle with his calf injury, at some point it might make sense to let Knight or Forbes go, sign Dozier or sign Garza and move Mudiay into Garza's two-way slot.

Unfortunately, Emmanuel Mudiay is ineligible for two-way contract status due to his years of NBA service exceeding the allowable limit.

I don't think Jordan McLaughlin will be out for very long, but if he is and Minnesota determines they have to add another ball-handler, they'll need to either make a trade for one, or sign a more inexperienced option like Sharife Cooper, Mac McClung, or Jared Butler, for example, to a two-way contract.

I guess I'll ask this here because I haven't kept up as much even lately when I have watched some games. Is Knight hurt or did Garza at this point simply pass him up?

Luka Garza played four minutes against Indiana when Naz Reid was in foul trouble, but that stint was pretty terrible for the team and Garza looked overmatched defensively. He's still very talented offensively, but I don't think he'll be playable in meaningful games this season.

So yes, Garza played over Nathan Knight in a pinch, but the truth is closer to them both being buried at the end of the bench. I don't think Chris Finch wants to play either of them. We saw that when he went to Kyle Anderson at the five recently instead of punishing a smaller Thunder team.

Minott after a sleepy 1st quarter absolutely took over in the 2nd, scoring 15 points and dishing out 3 assists in the span of about a 10-minute stretch. Iowa up 23 at the half.
