On espn they said because Bam has the same type of contract as Simmons they can't be on the same team.

Bam Adebayo and Ben Simmons both signed designated rookie contracts-- basically allowing their teams to give them a five-year deal instead of four. Teams are allowed to have two players on such deals, but only one can be acquired by trade. That's the issue with Adebayo and Brooklyn because they already acquired Simmons.

Also, Brooklyn is said to have little or no interest in Deandre Ayton. I'm not sure how that trade would work considering the circumstances.
