Who cares if Thad asked for a trade? What does that have to do with anything? He's not going to sit out games, and the worst he could of done was opt out, which many here would be happy that he did.

rofl, so... it would have been okay had he ended up opting out this summer leaving for nothing, but trading for KG is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO terrible? Seriously?

2. Given Thad was a stopgap and injuries destroyed any chance at relevance combined with the fact that Thad was not a long term answer to this teams needs at the 4 getting rid of him was the correct thing to do IMO.

3. Looking at the relatively low price of acquiring players on Thursday I have to question Thad's value in that market given his shortcomings and the $10M due next year.

4. If they most return on Thad was going to be a 2nd round pick or some other useless vet I don't have much issue with taking KG in return. If some of his competitive fire rubs off on the youngsters I think the value of his presence will far outweigh any potential late round pick or run of the mill vet.

5. Again, relative to the prices obtained Thursday I believe it is very fair to question giving up the future 1st for Payne.

In summary, 1-4 doesn't bother me nearly as much as some simply because there was no way to know that the season would get torpedoed in such spectacular fashion. It wasn't the way I would have gone, but I understand the reasoning. Was KG enough in return for ensuring Thad's salary would be gone next year? Without knowing what was offered other than KG and knowing the low prices obtained in general on Thursday the question cannot reasonably be answered. Waiting and signing KG for nothing this off season was only an option if they had another way of dumping Thad without taking back long term salary.

Regarding number 5, we can only hope Flip was right and Payne pays off long term.

I'm going to go with the optimistic perspective that the future is as bright or brighter today as it was Thursday morning until proven otherwise!

Damn it SP.. #5 is a great point that I hadn't even thought of until now. I really hope Payne turns out to be a solid rotation guy. Nailed it on this post and I agree with everything you said, especially the very last sentence.
