Wolves trade for Pat Beverly
Re: Wolves trade for Pat Beverly
Any chance this is a player they acquired with the idea that he could be a piece towards getting Ben Simmons? The 6ers surely want playoff tested and ready players for the upcoming season.

I had a thought related to this. I don't think this move was necessarily made with Ben Simmons in mind, as the Wolves genuinely needed a backup point guard that can also play off-ball, but there's an avenue where this move makes sense in the aftermath of a trade with the Sixers. In that trade the Wolves could part with D'Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, and draft capital should the current blend of talent completely fail to produce wins on the court. Then you'd have Patrick Beverley as a very attractive three-and-D point guard and role player to pair next to a more ball-dominant forward in Simmons. I don't think Minnesota will get to that situation, but they're built better in the event that they are.

Beverly certainly would make some sense to send to a team like Philly that is trying to win now. Obviously that's not a massive piece for a Simmons trade but it's a heck of a lot better piece than Juancho and Culver. Prince and Beverly are 2 reasonably worthwhile players worth 27 million in expiring salaries.
Edit: Cam said it well.

I think its win win situation, if you keep him he's a defending PG that can shoot the 3 efficiently. He's also an expiring contract PG that will have value and he did play under D. Morey and D. Rivers in the past, so he could be a natural fit and piece in a potential package for B. Simmons.

As obsessed with Simmons as Rosas appears to be, I suspect he had a possible Simmons trade as a secondary reason for acquiring Beverley. I just wish Rosas would forget about Simmons. I'm not keen on ball-dominant player who can't shoot at all from anywhere, including the free throw line. His apparent lack of mental and physical toughness make him even less attractive. Let some other team have him. I know others disagree, and I get that. In my view, Rosas should keep building around KAT and Ant with McDaniels, DLO and Beasley around them. Re-sign Vanderbilt and sign Millsap to join Beverley as another defensive, gritty smart vet. Then let's see where we're at next offseason when we'll have more financial flexibility, our own 1st round pick and three 2nd-round picks.

Rosas was part of the Houston group that Found Beverly int he first place so I doubt this was a 3 D checkers move just to get Simmons but as others including myself have said it doesn't hurt. Morey knows Beverly well too so I'd guess he would like him as well.
IMHO I would still be happy to acquire Simmons depending on what the Price would be. If it's Beverly Beasley (probably routed to another team) Layman and some first round picks I guess it would depend on the first round picks on whether or not I would consider it. I think Simmons would immediately make the Wolves a secure playoff team pending injury disasters and In my scenario Simmons would be the 4th option so him not shooting...that's doable. Adding one of the best most versatile defenders in the NBA that just turned 25...that's a massive move. What would you give to get a 25 year old Gobert? That's possibly the type of defensive impact player the Wolves are getting back. Do I think it will happen? No but turning Culver and Juancho into a player I think we all can agree the Sixers would want and actually have need for in a trade involving Simmons? Not a bad thing to do...and it's also possible the Wolves aren't the team that acquires Simmons maybe they get in on some other aspect of the deal.

The Beverly trade is a win, we took players that just weren't part of the plan and got an actual asset. It was a mistake to draft Culver but I can't blame them for taking him as a fall back option when Garland was taken and they didn't think CLEV would take him. Culver did have high defensive potential and you could see a path to him being valuable. A worse mistake would be to not get anything for Culver, so at least they salvaged value from players that just didn't fit well in MN.

Zodiac analysis:
Patrick Beverley 7/12/88 (Dragon Goat Dragon) born similar dragon day and year as Stephan Curry, Chaucey Billup, Coby White and Derrick Rose. People who born the DAYDAY of dragon are very good at what they do (Rosa, CJ McCollum, PJ Tucker, Collin Sexton, Luke Kennard, Kyle Anderson, John Collins, Cam Reddish, Clint Capela, Hassan Whiteside, Trey Burke, Maxi Kleber, Jeff Green, Kyle Lowry, Chris Boucher, Jaesean Tate, ETwaun Moore, Tobias Harris, Bradley Beal, Davis Bertans, Jake Layman, PAUL MILLSAP, draymond Green, and Klay Thompson.) ( Football: tom brady and his coach Bill Belichick 4/16/52 triple dragons and baseball David Ortid).
Anyway, these people or players have a knot of being good because they have characters do what it takes to win and be on top. I had been followed and studied these data since 2000.
Again, Finch (rooster) and Beverley (dragon) are buddies and best friend. Now look at Tom Thibodeau (horse) and Julius Randle (Goat) are best friends, same as Popovich (horse) and Tim Ducan (goat). We saw how good Tim Duncan became and Randle was most improved player of the year. Also, we saw why Rosa (dragon) picked Finch (rooster) as head coach. They are best friends.

I think a Simmons trade looks more like Beverly & Beasley plus at least one first round pick but he's a very interesting player. In a defender pick and roll type of role at PF I could see him being an asset. Imagine if he ever learned to shoot, he'd be crazy good. However you have to look at the possibility that he's always going to be a massive bust offensively and he might be the problem that he is / was for PHIL.
I lean towards Finch being able to run offense and maximize his skills to make it work. However I'm not willing to pay more than Beverly, Beasley, and one first round pick for a guy that wants out of town. If they can find better we have a core to build around without Simmons.
