Ugly game I was livid at some of the calls missed around the end of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th quarter. Wolves did stay in this one playing some solid D even though Memphis sucks at offense the Wolves still were getting int done. Is Bayless dong what Old Man Jarrett Jack did last year playing somewhat experienced and more effective than maybe the stats show? Heck of a game for him.

I wasn't sure about that timeout that Ryan took where it was a use it or lose it situation either. I wonder how many minutes Bayless had played at that point. Dude was looking gassed even after a timeout in overtime. That timeout for the 2nd jump ball ended up looking smart. Jim was befuddled at how Memphis lined up for that jump ball. I was too. Made Ryan look like a genius for taking the timeout.

Ugly win but we got it. The Wolves keep hanging around and doing it with Bayless and some other guys playing minutes often out of position.

I thought so at the time too, monster, and my son and I were discussing what was happening in the huddle. We both thought Ryan was assuming Towns would win the tip (he seems to be at about 90% this season) and Ryan was drawing up a play for the last seconds. But his post-game conference was confusing to me. He said he didn't want to use his final timeout (after the won tip) to design a play because teams often play better in the flow. What? So he didn't have a play drawn up assuming we win the tip? If not, that's unacceptable. And you can't imagine how much noise 4500 people can make groaning when they realized our final play was going to be 4 for19 Wig going one-on-one! Ryan has shown a talent for drawing up creative plays out of time outs, so shame on him for letting point Wig try to win the game. Fortunately KAT bailed him out, because Ryan didn't really deserve it with his end of game management.

I just watched the possession again. It looks like Wiggins wanted that shot. He waived off Bayless and Bayless was over there a few seconds jumping up and down for Wiggins to do something. I'm not positive Ryan didn't have something else planned. Wiggins shot was not terrible he got plenty of separation and a clean look. It's not what I would prefer but at least he had a point in the game where he actually demanded the ball

We saw that too, monster, and maybe it's somewhat of a good thing that Wig really wanted the ball. But Bayless is a PG and also was our best player last night, so the ball has to be in his hands on that last possession. I wonder what Ryan said during that time out. If he didn't give guidance on what to do after winning the tip, or if he designed Point Wiggins, than shame on Ryan...that's poor decision-making and game management remindful of the recent Dark Ages. But if he did design a play other than Point Wiggins, and Wig ignored him, then shame on Wig...and I hope Ryan talks to him privately. I tend to think Ryan didn't give direction on that final offensive play (not good) and Wig just did what they have done in those situations all season. I guess we will never know.

To me that last possession is a confusing intersection of process/results. Wiggins is a guy that's had a season where he scored nearly 24ppg. He is guarded by an underachieving guy that's basically a G-leaguer. On some level that's a mismatch in favor of Wiggins. Now Bruno had played very well defensively up to that point so...was that a good decision and process? What is a reasonable expectation of a good shot at the end of a game? Again Wiggins got off a clean although somewhat off balanced longer 2. He also wanted that shot. To me you could make a case for some positives of process in that situation regardless of the result. I'm not saying it was ALL positive in the process but I see SOME positive there. One other process thing they got right waseveryone wasspaced out. I think Taj was the only one inside the paint and he was in the Dunker's spot kinda mucking things up screening around to make Gasol and Rabb have to fight around to guard either him or Towns.

There is nothing positive in a process that puts the crunch-time offense in the hands of a poor ballhandler with bad hands and marginal passing skills. It really troubles me that Ryan Saunders continues that practice with Wiggins. I like a lot of what I've seen so far from Ryan. But continuing to use Wiggins as a primarily ballhandler to close out quarters or in crunch time should eventually disqualify him from continuing as the Wolves head coach beyond this season. Bayless should have been handling the ball as our only good ballhandler on the floor and our hottest players at the time. Having Bayless rather than Wiggins with the ball at that point is the easy stuff. Our head coach has to at least get the easy stuff right. I'm pulling for Ryan to prove himself and continue as our head coach beyond this season. It will be interesting to see how things go the rest of the season.

I'm all for running things through KAT. I've been saying that on this message board for over a year. But let's get real. Wiggins has almost completed his 5th NBA season. At this point, he's not going to develop into a decent ballhandler or suddenly develop good hands. Therefore, it is nuts to run the offense through him as the primary ballhandler at the top of the key. Ryan should be trying to find a role for Wiggins in the offense that makes sense - posting up, spotting up for corner threes, cutting off the ball. That's the develop angle for Wiggins this team should take. Wiggins can take it to the hole if he gets the ball out high before the opposing defense gets set. But when a defense is set and focused on him, it generally doesn't end well for the Wolves - turnovers or missed long twos.

This won't be a big surprise, but even though Wig was a mess all night on offense I loved that he wanted that shot. He got a really good look which is more than I think you could expect out of Bayless. Wig has made big shots like that before, so good on him for taking over.

And here in lies the dilemma with Wiggins that anyone that coaches him has encountered. Of all our perimeter players, he is the most capable of getting a reasonably clean shot off. But he sucks at actually converting them. Never have I seen a larger disconnect between a player's ability to create shots versus make shots. Yet if you were to ask RoCo, Bayless, Teague, or - heaven forbid - Okogie to go create a shot, they'd probably be even worse at it. So he is truly the "least bad" option we've got on the perimeter.

What I don't get is the point Lip made, which is get the damn ball to KAT! Luckily Wiggins missed the shot bad enough that KAT got the long-ish rebound and made the ensuing shot.

I just watched the play a bunch of times. Some want Bayless to have the ball but he is guarded by a terrific defender in Conley. Meanwhile Wiggins looked pretty comfortable working against Bruno even though he had been owned by him a couple times. Reminded me of when Wiggins was comfortably working Paul George a few games ago. People hate long two's but it's a make or miss shot at the end of the game. Wiggins was the first guy to put up his arms celebrating the Towns made shot and was the 2nd guy to meet Towns with his arms still straight up. Wiggins showing some excitement!!! Yay!
