Re: 2018 Summer league Thread
KDB still seems more like a modern day 4 than a 3 to me. I think he competes with Tolliver for minutes, not Wiggins, Butler, or Okogie. Good to see him knock down some shots today.

I could also see more small ball where KDB winds up stealing some of Dieng's minutes...

I hope Thibs follows through his comments with more smaller lineups. He isn't the first coach to say he will do it and then doesn't.
I agree that KBD is more of a modern 4 but to me he also looks more physically able to guard wings than Belly. I think you can get him minutes there. Ideally he takes Tolliver's spot a year from now and we have another wing worthy of minutes.

Re: 2018 Summer league Thread
If KBD pushed for minutes at the 4, that would be huge, because Taj could then split his time between the 4 and 5 and perhaps knock Dieng out of the rotation.
Center - KAT/Taj
PF - Taj/Tolliver/KDB
SF - Wiggins/Okogie
SG - Butler/Rose
PG - Teague/Jones

I just hope thibs experiments. Like even a big lineup of Butler/wigg/KBD/Tolliver/Kat could be at least interesting

I hope Tolliver is an experienced proven bench guy that's solid enough all around to allow guys to be plugged in next to him. The Wolves haven't really had a player like that of the bench on the roster since Thibs has been here the closest thing was probably Brandon Rush and he was injured early that year and then had to be a starter quite a bit afterwards.
If KBD is actually good enough to push for minutes anywhere that's a VERY good sign. He is getting plenty of buzz after today's performance. He might not be a super awesome athlete but that length is a big asset and somewhat of an equalizer.

May be on defense, but no on offense. You'd ideally want at least a couple of those guys to be able to be a legit deep threat. None of them are dangerous from 3, so the spacing will suck. Anthony Tolliver helps, but these days you need a lot more than one guy that can shoot the 3. The fact is absolutely no one in our 6-man perimeter rotation (Teague, Jones, Rose, Wiggins, Butler, Okogie) is considered a volume 3 threat. I honestly don't know of another team that exists with such little 3-point shooting up and down the PG-SG-SF depth chart.
Defense was the biggest problem on our bench and the biggest factor in our D being ranked so low. We keep our offense the same and bring up our team D, escpecially in our bench, we're a better team. I can see all of our wings becoming better 3 pt shooters but we, like San Antonio, just didn't take very many. Maybe we launch more this year but our offense from a numbers perspective just wasn't a problem.
Re: 2018 Summer league Thread
Thibs was on the broadcast during the game and he didn't say anything that stood out. He pretty much says the same stuff. One thing that does stick out was he was asked about Wiggins and Towns and he started speaking about them and added that Tyus was a young guy that is developing to. Jon K reported he assured Tyus that he was going to have a bigger role going forward and Thibs has obviously gone out of his way to mention Tyus in every media appearance. That's a positive AND he needs to back that up by playing him.
He did also make comments about guys on the SL team that have a shot at being on the roster as well as players on other SL teams. It probably isn't that significant he said that because most teams probably look for guys but it does seem like the wolves do look for some young players to add to the roster like they did with MGH last season.

But is he really a good fit on the second unit defensively? Yes, he has long arms, but he's only 6'4"...do we really expect him to be able defend older and bigger SFs? I see Wig as a true combo SF/SG, while Josh may not be big enough to guard many SFs. That's another reason I prefer Wig matched with the small backcourt of Tyus/Rose than Josh...three guys on the court under 6'4" is an extreme example of "going small" in my opinion.

I believe our good offense though came partially at the expense of good defense. For example, we sent a lot of guys to the offensive glass. The result was we were 4th in the NBA in O-rebound percentage. But what about the times we didn't get the offensive rebound? It makes us more vulnerable to easy fast break buckets.
Having a bunch of guys that prefer to do their work from 18 feet in creates a big problem in transition defense.
