Ha, poor Kenny G....

I don't know much about Thorpe, but his comments about Wiggins and his speed seem off the mark. When has anyone watched Wiggins sprint up and down the floor under ANY of the coaches he's played for? He may theoretically have elite speed, but he simply doesn't have the desire to use it. That's not a Thibs issue.

I do appreciate his comment that we shouldn't compare "current Thibs" to "old Thibs" (Doogie said Thibs has softened a bit since his Chicago days), but instead compare current Thibs to his current peers, as that's how free agents think about things. And on that front, he does seem like a dinosaur in a lot of ways.

I suspect they will extend a QO to Amile Jefferson because he would represent some cheap depth.

Yeah, I think with the way the league is going, Thibs may be fine moving on from Bjelly and using more wings at the 4 to backup Gibson. Jefferson probably won't see much time, but he seems like the type of guy you'd want in that 14th or 15th roster spot.

Q - I don't think Thorpe was off the mark on Wiggins. He said Wiggins should run and should be a fast break target because of his speed. He absolutely right about Wiggins' speed. He's incredibly fast end to end with those long strides. The fact that his speed isn't used the way Thorpe described doesn't contradict Thorpe's observation about Wiggins' speed or the how he would be more effective. Why he isn't used in that way might be all Wiggins or all Thibodeau. It's probably somewhere in the middle. But let's not forget that Thibodeau has always coached a grind-it-out, isolation half court game. I've been one of those on this Board who has often questioned Wiggins' motor for a long time. But I'm not prepared to absolve Thibodeau of all responsibility for the failure to take full advantage of Wiggins' speed in the offense.

He didn't say everyone hates Thibodeau. He said the Thibodeau has a reputation around the League of not being fun to play for. Those were Thorpe's words and that comment doesn't strike me as outlandish to say the least.

Just watching Thibodeau game after game you have to ask yourself whether you'd want to work or play for someone constantly barking at you and dictating nearly every play and player movement. Thorpe didn't say players hate Thibs and didn't even go so far as to say that the Wolves won't be able to sign any free agents. He basically said, we'll have to rely on money to attract free agents because playing for Thibs won't be perceived by most players as a positive. When you look at the contracts Thibs gave to Gibson and Teague, it's hard to argue with him on that point. Note further that Thorpe mentioned that Joe Harris and Corey Brewer could handle Thibs. And he was incredibly positive about Minnesota, saying that he has heard nothing but positive comments from players about living and playing in Minnesota.

He said the problem with the Wolves attracting free agents has never been Minneapolis or even the weather, but has instead been related to concerns about ownership and management. And now Thibs appears to be a negative according to Thorpe. It's not like Thorpe sounded hyperbolic or angry; he just offered his observation with a very matter of fact, measured tone. Say what you will about Thorpe, but he's very well sourced with lots of player contacts. Again, to say Thibs isn't perceived as fun to play for is hardly a controversial news flash.

Wolfson has reported that the Wolves has a workout with Ryan Broekhoff a guy that's been playing in Europe and has put up some nice shooting and rebound numbers. It seems there are a few teams interested I wonder what kind of contract it will take to get him but it sounds like he wants to play in the NBA now.

That was a measured response Lip. I think we want players that can handle Thibs either way. I want tough players here and for us to attract the kind of players that have the mental toughness to persevere in this environment. I have to say that Jimmy and Taj (and to a lesser extant Rose in the playoffs) were the most enjoyable elements of our team this year in spite of their deficiencies in play. It speaks huge volumes to what Thibs can do with a certain type of player. So will Thibs turn off some guys? Sure. But the guys he attracts are going to give this team a unique identity.

I agree with this. Unfortunately, his two young former #1 picks don't seem to fit this profile.

It's a process I think. One that takes time and patience. Dunn was supposed to fit the profile of everything Thibs liked and wanted and according to Jon K there were huge problems there. I think it's more than just having the dog in you otherwise Dunn and Lavine would still be Wolves I imagine. I think it is a mental toughness and a mature mind. It sounds like a maturation happened with all of Thibs' guys from Chicago. I have hope it can happen with KAT and Wiggs too. Clearly Thibs sees something in the two of them that he likes with all the PT he gives them, and he rarely calls them out publicly beyond saying they need to improve.

True. Thibs gave one of those two #1s a max extension. Looks like Gorgui's not tough enough either. Yet, Thibs signed Gorgui to a long lurcative extension. Apparently Thibs doesn't know who fits his style. Crawford didn't fit either. Teague didn't strike me a mentally tough and he didn't seem too happy with Thibs. Thorpe's comment about Joe Harris being tough and able to play for Thibodeau is further reason to pursue him with our MLE.

Yeah, Thibs the GM sometimes doesn't seem connected to Thibs the coach. Weird.
