Q - I agree that Jordan and Butler would only be viable options if we have a top 3 pick. Not sure I'd be up for trading a #6 pick for a Covington or Dudley even if it included a lower first round pick, but that sort of deal would be worth considering. If I were in Thibs' shoes it would really depend on my evaluation of Isaac and Zach Collins. If after reviewing all the film, having them in for workouts and all the other research I'm convinced either one has a very good chance of eventually becoming an all-star caliber player, I'd keep the pick.

I just can't stomach trading our pick for someone who doesn't significantly move the needle when we have all that cap room. Add on the crazy contracts being signed right now those rookie deals look better and better. Just sign decent bench players don't give away likely our last chance to draft a superstar to join this core.

I'm kind of on this train with you Bloop. If you're going to make a trade of a top draft asset, you better get something that can make a difference. Marginal rotation players or journeyman vets don't have that kind of impact. Go big or don't go at all.

Gee, I've heard that before. I thought last year was our last chance to draft a superstar? I guess not! It's amazing how all these lottery picks we get just lead us into the lottery again and again and again!

If we were to go back three years ago, to the spring of 2014, and tell you that we were going to get the next three #1 picks in the draft (2013, 2014, and 2015); lose Kevin Love; keep Rubio, Dieng, and Shabazz; and eventually hire Thibs as our head coach, how many people's jaws would drop and then promptly predict that we would be a perennial playoff team by 2017? I bet nearly everyone. Yet all of those things indeed came to fruition and we're not even close.....

That doesn't mean you just give up and stop drafting, We got a Towns and a Lavine recently let's keep it going while we can, they won't all be Kris Dunn's

I'm not suggesting we stop drafting, as I wouldn't mind parlaying our pick for a lower one as part of a deal to land a veteran. My issue is that this team doesn't need more 19-year old potential "stars". We have our scorers already and they are only going to get better on that side of the ball. If we are going to bring in a rookie, I'd much rather bring in someone that has the potential to develop into an elite defensive role player. Examples below.....

Draymond Green - 2nd rounder
Rudy Gobert - Late first
DeAndre Jordan - 2nd rounder
Danny Green - 2nd rounder
Robert Covington - Undrafted
Jae Crowder - 2nd rounder
DeMarre Carroll - Late first
Trevor Ariza - 2nd rounder
Andre Roberson - Late first

I'd say we need more Kris Dunn-like players, absolutely yes. You may not recall, but he was the guy I wanted us to draft because I felt he best complimented what we already had. In hindsight, he was over-priced based on the scarcity of point guards in that draft, so we absolutely drafted him at a position higher than, for example, this year where he'd probably go in the mid to late first round. I also didn't anticipate the offensive ineptitude, just like many of us never anticipated the defensive ineptitude of KAT.

Tough to argue with this and it's coming from Q who is grumpy about young players guy. :)

Some of you guys like Khansy are way overthinking this. We keep the pick and draft the best dude and if the talent is substantially equal, we can go positional need. Fultz, Ball, Jackson, Isaac, Tatum, Fox and Monk, I believe are the top tier guys and there isn't huge separation in projecting them. I'm still liking Isaac because of his length, his shooting, rebounding and defense and think he fits perfectly what we need and will be a good two way glue guy for us and he can play both the 3 and 4, our two biggest needs. Jackson has a great motor and should be a very good two way player, and the biggest concern for me is how he fits in longer term with our roster of three very good scorers. Tatum is a pretty solid player though I don't see the same star potential out of him as Jackson and Isaac, he is pretty skilled and might surprise. If we can grab on of these three dudes, we should do it. If we get a top two pick and some team offers us a great deal to move back into the top 6, I'd definitely consider that too.
