It feels like I'm rooting for a different team now.
Clearly I hate the Rubio trade and subsequent acquisition of Teague. I hate being lied to by the front office. I hate that we're essentially building the teams Thibs couldn't get far with.
The only reason why I'm not flat out abandoning ship is because I already gave up on this franchise winning a ring. If they make the playoffs ONCE it'll be worth it, but but this is where I'm at with this team and it just sucks.
I just have one question to the board: if this team still continues to fail, who is the new whipping boy?
Wiggins is next. Teague won't be "polarizing" enough.
I'm disillusioned enough where I see this team being more than JUST a playoff team. I realize what our cap space situation was. That's why I was about continuing to build organically, like I feel flip intended.
Sure these moves put us in a position to be closer to competing in the playoffs. But they also force us into competition when reality doesn't exactly connect on true contending.
I really believe these moves put us closer to ANOTHER rebuild than they move us to ACTUAL competitiveness.

Sure, we are in the playoffs 1000000%. We have to, and we will. But I don't care about just making the 2nd round or even the damn WCF. You're kidding yourselves if this has any relevency to making it any further in the next few years. These moves do nothing more than get us talked about as a pretender. We aren't a destination, never will be.. accept that. This is akin to a job saving, owner appeasing off-season. Nothing more. The blinders are strong here.
Edit: before others jump on me about, "what would you do". I'd continue to grow organically. Something we almost got right after 10+ years. Call on the previous 10 years all you want, but it was damn near there. Add a few pieces this offseason, draft another top 10 prospect this year, and wait for everything to grow while we controlled the whole damn team for 4+ more years. This whole situation is too damn nearsighted for me..

I don't think you're wrong. I just don't think they were ever getting there no matter the approach.
I wish some our other past coaches would have tried to save their job by trading for a top 15 player, it sounds so easy when you put it like that. I'm surprised more coaches/GM's don't fleece other teams for all-pros to save their jobs!

We will see what happens in two seasons. I don't believe Jimmy envisioned " talking to players much better than myself" as Jeff Teague. Rubio should have gone, I agree. But for bench help or at the draft for a pick that didn't suddenly become a 22-28 pick. LaVine, Dunn, and 7 for Butler and 16 is something I will never agree with until I see an extension in two years.. otherwise that aligns too perfectly for an out..

Do you see the other moves these teams in the West are making? The playoffs weren't happening next year just by running it back with a draft pick and a new pool of bench vets. Who knows how long it takes to make the playoffs without Butler and then that's flirting with Towns, Wiggins and Lavine demanding out. Acting like growing organically means contention automatically is putting the cart way before the horse. It's a nice concept. The performance of the team this past year should have seriously put some doubt in people's minds that continuing down the same path was guaranteed for success especially at a championship level. The development just wasn't there to be comfortable running it back. The odds of needing to start rebuilding yet again were just as high as ever becoming a contender.

Is Thibs approach nearsighted? Fair enough.
But is your suggested approach myopic?
Assuming three or four or five players would all reach their potential while all learning how to play in the NBA... and all gunning to make their mark... and money... simultaneously... that's a pretty big shot in the dark if you ask me.
