Not sure if you know this, but the lakers had Upshaw for the summer league and part of camp I believe, but cut him due to behind the scenes issues. He apparently has some anger problems that he has been unable to deal with. Not a guy we need in the locker room with the young roster we currently have.
I am well aware of Upshaw and thought he played KAT pretty well in Vegas. I think he's worth the risk, put some veteran leadership in his head and see what pans out. Rudez is just a roster filler that does nothing for me, plenty of D-League players I'd prefer to him.

Once your character flaws push you out of the 1st round and out of the NBA I'm out. That means your off-court stuff is so bad that your talent can't outweigh it.

H. Whiteside had flaws and never got a chance in SAC town.

It took him 2 years out of the league all together to get it. I'd be happy to revisit the Upshaw situation in 2 years. Those guys don't get it if they don't hit rock bottom and they can't hit rock bottom if you keep giving them chances. People forget that Whiteside was taken in the John Wall draft. That's a long-time ago for him to just be getting it now. Wall, Favors, Cousins, George. They're all all-stars now.
I would shy away from Upshaw at this stage. We need to look at teams for the next Jeremy Lamb type in a trade. Someone young that might just need to change teams to get it. Someone between 22-25. TJ Warren would be some on that would be a great target, but he might already have found his spot with the Suns.

Ben McLemore with the Kings. He's 22 and been in and out of their rotation. Most importantly he's shooting 50% from 3 this year. Put him in Sam's defensive system and let him be the 3 and D wing we need.
Jordan Adams is still stuck in Memphis not playing at all. KJ McDaniels is blocked in Houston. If Warren keeps it up in Phoenix that's gonna keep Archie Goodwin on the bench. Reggie Bullock has been blocked on multiple teams, but he really hasn't show much outside of his second year in LAC with 38.5% from 3. The question then becomes which of these guys is likely to pan out if given minutes. That's tough to predict. McLemore and Bullock are really the only two with any kind of 3pt shooting and McDaniels showed in Philly he can be a defensive terror if given minutes. It's a tough choice and that's assuming all these guys are on the table.
Khans, I like how you are thinking. You want someone that will fit in with what we are doing her from the culture POV and has talent. I always likes KJ McDaniels and Jordan Adams. I really thought the Clippers got a steal with Bullock, but he just hasn't produced. The Kings always seem to be desperate to make a move and McLemore has a little of Wiggins to him. Tons of talent with the question if he has the motor. I wonder if he would fit the culture here.
