Martin Officially on the Trading Block
Re: Martin Officially on the Trading Block
It seems the Martin and Wolves have agreed to find him a new home that he will like, and as Abe has mentioned, the destination for Martin is more important than what the Wolves get back.
It also seems unlikely that an interim POBO/GM will be allowed to make any "significant" roster change. The players currently on the roster will play out the season, and things will be sorted out afterwards, both on and off the court.

Re: Martin Officially on the Trading Block
I think we consider the following 3 things when making a trade:
1. Don't add anyone that is disruptive and a headcase
2. Find a good place that Martin fits (not a worse situation)
3. Get an asset.
At this point I would say the first 2 are required and the 3rd is a nice to have.
I wonder we will be willing to trade him to another WC team.

Why not?
The Wolves aren't really a playoff team. And Martin might not be that much of a difference maker anyway.

Abe, I wouldn't let it stop me, but if management thinks we are going to have a shot at the 8th spot they might not want to trade it to a team like Trailblazers or Kings.

Who cares where Martin is dealt? Find and execute the best deal for the Wolves, not Martin. It's bad business to keep making moves with the best interest of the organization second to the player. These are professionals and we're no longer in a position where taking care of players if the team is doing bad is going to be a thing moving forward when FA's consider signing here. All this does is setup the next ruthless deal that needs to be made as much worse because we have a reputation for taking care of players and not trying to hurt their feelings. If LA or Philly offer us the most back you send him there. End of story. Martin signed before all the young guys got here so it makes sense why he's eventually worked his way onto the block. New FA's are going to know exactly what they're walking into.

Certainly Flip would have cared. I would flip 1 with 3 in my order of concern. That is the only way you get back fair value.
Re: Martin Officially on the Trading Block
I agree Kahn. What has Martin done for this organization to deserve things his way ?
I think OKC would be a natural fit for him. Back playin with the only team he's ever won on and quite frankly they could really use a perimeter scorer not named Durant and Westbrook. That team needs to figure out other ways to score by the time the playoffs roll around .

I do think it matters if you take care of players. Let's give Martin at least a tiny sliver of credit here. He could have asked out last year he could have sulked after getting benched this year. Instead this year he put forth effort on D attempted to take charges etc. let's be real here no crappy teams are likely to trade for Martin or any other valued vet on the likely last year of their deal (like Brewer and Mo last year) so Martin is going to go to at least a decent team the Lakers or Philly won't be offering the best deal.
LST i just think it's fair to give Morris his due and Payne just hasn't done enough (playing on a below average team) to make me think he can reach the level that Morris has achieved already in his career. They are somewhat similar in what they may be able to do and not do for you. Like I said so think Payne could end up being a value able rotation guy and those guys can really help teams for years.

Players shouldn't be given extra credit for fulfilling their contracts without bitching if something doesn't go their way. That's what you're supposed to do. So I'm not giving him credit for not asking out of making 7 million dollars to sit on the bench. We've taken care of multiple players and what has that got us? The way I see it, we've got a bunch of nothing for taking care of guys like Brewer and Mo. Why should we do it a third time for Martin? Take the best deal.
