Once we get to finish evaluating Wiggins, Lavine, Dieng, Bazz, Payne and AB we can start thinking about first round picks again. Every year teams buy back into the first round so if we need someone we can get someone. We need to first give our existing roster a fair shake. If we keep using draft picks we are just drafting guys and parking them behind our existing young guys and the new guys won't be able to develop themselves. All our picks are pretty well protected so I don't imagine us paying dearly for missing out on middle of the draft guys.
What? There's not enough room to add more young talent? Why because they're expensive and have a short shelf life? That there are 24 hours in the day that Wolves coaches couldn't possibbly develop them all? Because we all know that veteran players also need zero coaching as well. Most ridiculous statement I've herd in a while
There literally may not be more room because of roster spot issues that's how many players we have on the team. We can either sell extremely low and take a loss on guys like AP and AB just to get someone who is no more guaranteed to be better than they are or we can go even younger and not bring back some of the vets and continue to suck more because we keep getting younger guys who aren't ready to contribute for 2-3 years. We're talking about non-lottery picks here. These guys aren't worth the amount of grief people have over not having those picks. They are strictly worth their trade value and little else.
LIP---I can't believe we traded a future first round pick likely in the teens for A. Payne! And I can't believe we traded what will likely be the 11th or 12th pick from Miami in this year's draft for Thad Young, who has since been swapped for KG who played in only 5 of the Wolves 20 plus games since he got here and may never play again.
Alex---I honestly wouldn't have a problem with how Payne is playing right now if it wasn't for a 1st round pick. There's no way you couldn't of gotten him for a 2nd, he wasn't going to play for the Hawks anytime soon, and the Hawks needed to deal him way more then the Wolves needed him. If the Hawks were insistent on a 1st then just walk away. Wolves need as many picks as they can get, wither the draft is a crapshoot or not
Let's work off these words of wisdom. Too many young guys? Need experience? Then trade value for value or collect assets, like they are doing in Philly. Flip made horseshiet deals, and appeared to be desperate in doing so. That is not good management.
Expecting Atlanta to accept a trade of just a 2nd round pick for Payne who was #15 in the draft about 6 months earlier seems a little unrealistic.
I don't think there is too much young talent...there isn't enough good young talent. If someone gave us 1st rounder and to get him on the team I had to cut a guy like Bennett sure fine let him fight for a job in training camp and if he can't beat out whoever or if Paybe keeps looking bad cut him whatever. You keep looking for young talent this team isn't close.
Here is the thing the Wolves have 2 high 2nd round picks they could add players that way or maybe even package to move up. Also there could be an UFA that proves worthwhile. Thee are plenty of worthwhile players found that way. It's time we do that. Find a backup PG a solid backup big. Thats what the good teams do. Getting first round picks is great but that's not the only way to get talent.
Bennett and Payne have nothing to do with this team's future and acquiring young talent. At very best, they're rotation players. We need to focus on getting starter-level talent.
